Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion and natural or man-made disasters.
I-Scope of responsibilities:
Ensure nursing care, treatment and follow-up of patients and/or a population in accordance with doctors’ prescriptions, MSF protocols, respect of universal hygiene standards
Ensure supervision and continuous training of a team in absence of a supervisor nurse (level 6 or 7)
II- Function responsibilities:
A- Pharmacy:
Drugs delivery to patient according to medical prescription
Give explanation about modalities of taking treatment, make sure the patient understands them in order to ensure its participation to treatment
In clinic site arrange the dispensary according to MSF StandardsEnsure efficient management of his/her stock (stock management, storage conditions, order making and order reception)
Keep track of his/her activity in filling in registers, in calculating drugs consumption and giving report to its technical referent, Follow the consumption of drugs on daily/weekly/monthly basisReport immediately to the technical referent any problem arising in the service, especially the loss/ robbery/damage of medical equipment or medicines
Prepare the weekly orders for the drugs to the dispensary in collaboration with the head of nursing activities to avoid stock rupturesKeep the dispensary clean and tidy.
B- Dressing Room :
Perform Injections whenever needed and according to the doctor prescriptions
Perform wound dressing when required and according to the high standard of hygiene and medical precaution
Follow up the dressing room consumption and re-order the renewable supplies when needed
C- EPI:
Ensure all children attending the clinic are receiving the appropriate vaccines and according to the expanded program of immunization prescribed by the doctor
Fill in the requisition forms to order materials and cards needed to run the program
Submit data related to the EPI on daily, weekly and any other basis
D- Patient care:
Know, apply and make sure universal hygiene standards and security rules are respected for medical premises, routing of patients, routing of linen. Ensure asepsis rules during all nursing cares. Ensure quality of the sterilization process.
Organise and carry out care and treatments according to doctor’s prescription and MSF protocols.
Ensure that quality and continuity of care are respected.
Carry out surveillance of the patient, assessment of his health state evolution, identification of emergency situation and information of the doctor.
In case of emergency or influx of casualties, carry out first aid care and treatment according to medical orders given by the Dr. to be followed by appropriate medical documentation once the patients are stabilised.
Carry out when necessary a therapeutic education of the patient (and family) using a patient based approach.
Assessing patients’ and or patients’ families in the community on how to provide self/patient care to maintain independence.
E- Management:
Manage daily and motivate a team of cleaners.
Manage efficiently the pharmacy and medical equipment: drugs orders, follow-up of the stock, storage conditions, and inventories, follow-up of expired drugs.
F- Monitoring, analysis and reporting:
Participate actively in the monitoring and reporting of the activities in the pharmacy, dressing room and EPI.
Report immediately to the technical referent any problem arising in the service, especially the loss/ robbery/damage of medical equipment or medicines.
