Nurse Helper/ West Bekaa

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion and natural or man-made disasters. I- Scope of responsibilities: Ensure appropriate and accurate registration of paitents in a discreet and professional manner in accordance with MSF protocols, following vulnerability criteria through MOSA for Vulnerable/Returnee Lebanese, and triaging patients according to medical priority Assist nurse and medical doctor as required in accordance with MSF protocols, Drs prescriptions, with sensitivity to context. Ensure comfort and confidentiality of patients is maintained at all times, upholding universal precautions, and working under the supervision of the nurse and Doctor.   II- Function responsibilities: A- Pharmacy management: Assist with physical inventories Assist with order preparations and sending to the different health structures (packing, transport…) B- Hygiene standards: Know and apply universal hygiene standards and ensure security rules are respected for medical premises, routing of patients. Ensure asepsis during all patient care. Ensure quality of the sterilization process. C-Lack of autonomy compensation: Compensate (or make sure that someone can compensate in the right way) patient lack of autonomy regarding his feeding, his personal hygiene, his movements and his comfort. Collaborate with Dr and nurse to ensure needs of handicapped/immobile patients are taken in to consideration for possible referral to other NGOs, providing patient/caregiver gives consent, ensure transfer of relevant information and contact details of patient to nurse supervisor. D- Treatment and care: Help the doctor/nurse to carry out care and treatment, according to doctors’ prescriptions and MSF guidelines E- Patient surveillance and triage: Participate in the surveillance of the patient (vigilance regarding his alimentation, his hydration, evolution of his health state, identification of emergency situation). Triage patients according to medical priority In case of emergency assist  the nurse/doctor as requested F- Patient therapeutic education (PTE): Participate in the PTE in conjunction with nurse and health promoter, keeping a patient based approach Ensure comfort, privacy and confidentiality are maintained and appropriate approach is taken for lactating mothers requiring breastfeeding assessment/attachment assistance Gender specific for female nurse assistant: Assist lactating mothers with breastfeeding assessment and support with attachment when required. Discuss any sensitive gynaecological issues/concerns voiced by patient in a private and confidential setting ensuring comfort and privacy are maintained. G- Participation in the project monitoring: Participate in the monitoring of medical activities (correctly fill in patient files, health cards and registration papers) Ensure a relevant transfer of information to the rest of the team Report immediately to the technical referent any problem arising in the service, especially the loss/ robbery/damage of medical equipment or medicines, and any difficulties/complaints from patients Report daily to nurse with feedback from activities, number of cases, any notifiable/infectious diseases,  or exceptional cases, and summary of the day III- Specific activities linked to context: Assist nurse to maintain pharmacy records Maintain patient register Assist doctor with maintenance of medical statistics as required Report to nurse any needs or concerns relating to the pharmacy, patients, clinic or context

Nurse-Helper diploma if there is one recognized by the country otherwise, none is required and MSF training is provided. Literacy required. Ability to do simple calculus.
