Agricultural Engineer - Dhaim Project

Responsibilities   The Agricultural Engineer will be part of the DHAIM technical team responsible for:  1. Training greenhouse producers in production, Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and post-harvest handling techniques. Requires full participation in all training of trainer (ToT) activities. Includes providing input to farmer training curriculum and the Farmers Handbook of Basic Information for both hydroponic and soil-based farmers.   2. Provide day-to-day technical interventions and crop management to producers based on training and technical guidance from the DHAIM Technical Advisor and Horticulture Managers to accomplish program results. Through daily visits to sites, assist producers in analysis and interpretation of water chemistry, soil testing and correct management of fertilizers and irrigation practices. Complete a site visitation form for each visit carried out to farmers indicating observations, problems, and recommended solutions provided based on guidance from Technical Advisor and Horticulture Managers  3. Assist the Technical Advisor in the construction and instillation of hydroponic and soil-based production systems within demonstration greenhouses.   4. Coordinate with the DHAIM Business Development Services (BDS) Manager to facilitate transfer of record-keeping technical assistance and access to credit for producers.  5.Coordinate with the DHAIM Marketing Manager to facilitate transfer of market information and technical assistance, such as product and packaging specifications and harvest timing.   6.Coordinate with the Capacity Building Manager in reaching out to the producers, identifying clusters and groups of farmers to work with, facilitate the provision of overall technical assistance as well as gathering information for Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E).   7.Support the M&E Manager and the Grants Manager to monitor and document/report on the progress of selected fruit and vegetable producers. Provide input to weekly and quarterly reports detailing implementation progress and challenges, as assigned by the Technical Advisor. 8. Coordinate with management of local partners to ensure that they are well informed of DHAIM project activities and performance in regard to agreed-upon work plan deliverables.   9.Participation in continuous improvement training and practice to increase KSA applicable to Lebanese agronomy and horticulture.
