Sign Language Interpreter

 Sign language interpreter    “Strengthening the role of the disability movement in promoting the rights of marginalized Persons with disabilities in Lebanon” Funded by the European Union and the Agence Française pour le Develloppement       1.      Background   The “Strengthening the role of the disability movement in promoting the rights of marginalized Persons with disabilities in Lebanon” project is a Handicap International project, funded by the European Union and the Agence Française de Developpement. The project is implemented in partnership with the Lebanese Physical Handicapped Union (LPHU), the Lebanese Association for Self Advocacy-LASA and the Youth Association of the Blind (YAB) and covers the period April 2012 - March 2014.Based on the needs, this project developed two main Expected results aiming to achieve:   Global objective: Lebanese authorities are held accountable by disability movement of the rights of all Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in Lebanon following the national response made to the Universal Periodic Review's (UPR) recommendations Specific objective: The disability movement's advocacy on the rights of PwDs towards local and national authorities demonstrates comprehensiveness by including needs and demands of marginalized PwDs living in Lebanon   2.       DESCRIPTION OF THE REQUIRED SERVICE PROVISION   The project is aiming at training and building capacities of marginalized People With Disability PWDs with a specific focus on hearing disability. It is, therefore, seeking the services of sign language interpreters in the framework of its training activities. The sign language interpreter will have the following responsibilities: Interpret the delivered training content during training session (from Levantine Arabic dialect to sign language) Organize a pre-training session with People with hearing disabilities to agree – as much as possible and when needed – on the specific signs system to be used. Facilitate communication between People with hearing disability and the trainer during training sessions Facilitate communication between trainees with hearing disability and other trainees Be an active member of the trainers team Participate in the trainer team meeting and coordination with the main trainer Coordinate and report to the project team (field officers, technical advisor and project manager) on the training activities. Training session will be carried in Beirut and in the different Lebanese region   Sign interpreter profile At least 2-3 years of experience in sign language interpretation Be open to work in a trainer team, training skills are a significant plus. Good social, communication and reporting skills Familiarity with the disability movement in Lebanon is a plus.
