Statistician

I.                    Job Summary   Under the direct supervision of the Principal Expert/Principal Gender Specialist, the Statistician will be tasked with the compilation, data validation and triangulation, qualitative and quantitative data across a 15-year time series about the status of Lebanese women in economic, social, political, legislative, professional, media and cultural fields from national, regional and international sources.   II.           Main Functions & Duties   The Statistician will be responsible for all statistical tasks pertaining to the creation of a comprehensive Gender Database under Lebanon Pilot Project, constituting the first phase towards the creation of a regional electronic virtual knowledge base: -       Assist the Principal Expert on deciding on a methodology for data collection, validation and triangulation; -       Assess and collect available data and explore the feasibility of using such pre-analysis phase; -       Interpret and present validated quantitative and qualitative data from various sources; -       Provide statistical consultation and technical support to Principal Expert on an as-needed basis; -       Assist in the development of the statistical component of the Lebanon Virtual Library;         III.                Experience   -       5-7 years of working experience in the field of statistical analysis with preference given to work of relevance to gender issues; -       Knowledge of ESCWA countries conditions related to statistics and field experience in ESCWA countries is highly desirable; -       Experience with qualitative data collection methodology through surveys is desirable   IV.                  Qualifications   -      MSc or equivalent in Statistics with at least 5 years of relevant professional experience; -       Knowledge of statistical software packages (e.g. Matlab, SPSS,  R, SAS) -       Bilingual (English, Arabic)
