Protection Officer - North

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental and non-profit organization, founded in 1956, that works in more than 30 countries around the world. DRC has been operating in Lebanon since 2004, working with Palestinian and Iraqi refugees, as well as Lebanese communities affected by the war in 2006. DRC is committed to basic humanitarian principles; including impartiality and neutrality, and offers the highest standards of accountability to the people it serves. DRC Lebanon has been assisting the Syrian displaced, fleeing Syria into northern Lebanon, since May 2011. This assistance has come through the provision of food and non-food items, various outreach activities (registration, follow-up and awareness sessions) rehabilitation of collective shelters and the implementation of quick impact projects. DRC is inviting local candidates to apply for the position of Protection Officer - North, to support its activities under the project "Emergency Response for Displaced Syrians in Akkar and Tripoli". Responsibilities: Main Tasks: Preparing, monitoring and evaluating the protection activities, including assistance to Syrian displaced new arrivals; protection desk during distribution and individual case management; Coordinating, monitoring and evaluating the work of the DRC protection team; Supervision of the work of the protection team providing coaching and support; Capacity building of the DRC outreach team in relation to all protection activities (referral, follow up, counseling, basic intervention skills, etc); Archiving all the documents relevant to the protection activities; Monitoring and reporting of protection-related issues. Coordination:Continuous coordination with all relevant stakeholders regarding the progress of the protection activities. Reporting: Reporting back verbally on the progress of the work, to the Protection Project Manager, as often as needed; Writing an evaluation report on the protection activities/team (achievements, challenges, recommendations etc); Providing relevant input for the monthly reports and other donor reports. Other:Fulfilling any other relevant duties as requested by the Protection Project Manager, Area Manager or Emergency Advisor. Qualifications & Experience: University degree; preferably related to social work Minimum 4 years of relevant work experience; NGO experience; Excellent command of English; Experienced in the field of protection; Experience in emergency work is a plus. Required Skills: Ability to lead groups; Good communication skills; Excellent interpersonal skills Commitment to the values, vision and mission of DRC; Good computer skills (PowerPoint, Word, Excel); Self-motivation and strong team spirit; Well-developed organizational and planning skills; Starting date: August 2012 Conditions: DRC offers a competitive local salary and benefits package.
