Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion and natural or man-made disasters.
Scope of Work:
Ensure registration of patients that use MSF health facilities
Ensure a proper medical categorization (Triage) according to their medical condtions to be attended as soon as possible
In some context, ensure the patient preparation to the consultation (to be specified in “specific activities linked to context”)
Registration
Welcome patients, inform them and their families about the functioning of the consultation
For new coming patients, according to the registration system set up, register them, create a file, allocate a number, take identity and administrative data in order to have a complete file before seeing a health professional
For patients coming back, get out their file from the filing system, update any data that need to be updated before seeing a health professional
Keep update and tidy the filing system setup
In case of regular appointments (e.g. patient follow-up, chronic disease patient) inform health professional/ clinician about patients that didn’t come the foreseen day
Ensure the spatial organisation of the site and ensure regular patient flow
Collect and submit data required for the daily/weekly/monthly statics or any other type of data requested by the supervisor
Triage
Take routinely the vital signs of the patients attending the clinic mainly the Temperature, pulse rate and respiratory rate
Take the weight and height of the patients less than 5 and only the weight for more than 5
Prioritize cases according to the presenting complaint and if they don’t have any complications then they attend according to their preset appointment or their time of arrival
Pregnant & Childbearing
Ensure all pregnant women are weighed and the weight is recorded on the health card.
Register the women in childbearing age needing TT vaccine and refer to EPI.
Direct the women coming for the ANC to the midwife.
Patient care
Know, apply and make sure universal hygiene standards and security rules are respected for medical premises, routing of patients, routing of linen. Ensure asepsis rules during all nursing cares. Ensure quality of the sterilization process.
Organise and carry out care and treatments according to doctor’s prescription and MSF protocols.
Ensure that quality and continuity of care are respected.
Carry out surveillance of the patient, assessment of his health state evolution, identification of emergency situation and information of the doctor.
In case of emergency, carry out first aid care and treatment according to prior written protocol done by the doctor.
During medical consultations, ensure the sorting and detect priority
Management
Manage daily and motivate a team of cleaners.
Manage efficiently the medical equipment in her station
Monitoring, analysis and reporting
Participate actively in the monitoring and the reporting of medical activities (correctly fill in patient files, forms, statistics, reports).
Report immediately to the Head of nursing activities any problem arising in the service, especially the loss/ robbery/damage of medical equipment
