The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental and nonprofit organization, founded in 1956, that works in more than 30 countries around the world. DRC has been operating in Lebanon since 2004, working with Palestinian and Iraqi refugees, as well as Lebanese communities affected by the war in 2006. DRC is committed to basic humanitarian principles; including impartiality and neutrality, and offers the highest standards of accountability to the people it serves.
DRC Lebanon has been assisting the Syrian displaced, fleeing Syria into northern Lebanon, since May 2011, and the Bekaa valley since February 2012. This assistance has come through the provision of food and non-food items, various outreach activities and rehabilitation of collective shelters.
DRC is inviting local candidates to apply for the position of Registration Assistant - North under the project "Emergency Response for Displaced Syrians in Lebanon", the incumbants will be seconded to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
Accountability
Keep track of Refugees and Assylum seekers status records by regularly updating the database.
Listens well and able to provide sound counselling to Refugees
Act in the best interest of Persons of Concern
UNHCR’s protection policies, standards and doctrine are consistently and coherently applied.
Persons of concern to UNHCR are assisted, treated with dignity, kept informed and encouraged to participate actively in matters relating to their protection.
The specific needs and protection issues facing persons of concern are identified in an accurate and timely manner.
Responsibility
Conducts basic interviews with asylum seekers
Oversees registration and ensures people with special needs are identified and assisted
Further development, implementation and monitoring of protection system
Visit detention facilities and wounded persons of concern at hospitals.
Interact with refugee communities and provide response to protection concerns (torture, trauma, SGBV, domestic violence…)
Monitoring borders and ensure individuals have access to asylum system
Coordinate with local actors and interact with various authorities
Attends to all asylum-seekers and refugees’ queries and takes further action where necessary
Maintains all protected-related statistical records and files
Provide input to protection reports and other as required.
Participates in training sessions as resource person
Performs other duties as required.
Authority
Decide on prioritisation and identify the most appropriate course of action in view of particular vulnerabilities of persons of concern;
Submit individual requests from persons of concern for approval by the designated officer.
When counselling persons of concern, decide on the content of information and advice to be shared.
Submit recommendations on refugee status or solutions to be provided for approval by the designated officer.

ESSENTIAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
University Degree in Political Science, International Relations, Social Work or other related field.
Minimum 2 years of previous job experience relevant to the function;
Fluency in English and Arabic. French is an asset.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES
Knowledge of computer applications such as MS Word, Excel, Access. Familiarity with ProGres data base is a plus.
Good communicator with strong interpersonal skills to deal with asylum seekers and refugees of different cultural and educational backgrounds.
Ability to work under pressure;
Appreciation of a multi-cultural environment;
Empathy and social engagement;
Excellent Drafting skills.
Knowledge of UNHCR, refugee protection legal framework, in particular refugee status determination.
Completion of UNHCR learning programmes or specific training relevant to functions of the position.
Knowledge of another relevant UN or local languages or language(s) spoken by the refugees and assylum
seekers in the duty station.
