Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion and natural or man-made disasters.
I- Scope of responsibilities:
Implementation of all components of the reproductive health policy in the MSF mission
Ensure supervision and training of a team
Obstetrical activities
II- Function responsibilities:
a- Medical activities and patient care:
Obstetrical activities
Is responsible of all obstetrical activities (carry out pre-conceptual care, antenatal care, post-partum care, neonatal care) including specific care for HIV pregnant women.
Prevention of fistula, as well as early management are integrated into obstetrical activities
STI (Sexually transmitted infection)
Provide effective diagnosis and treatment for patients with STIs (and their partners)
Violence
Provide appropriate medical and psychological care to victims of sexual violence, according to MSF guidelines and protocols.
b- Pharmacy and medical equipment management:
Ensure efficient management of the ward pharmacy and medical equipment: drug and material orders, stock follow-up, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their return to the central pharmacy
Ensure the correct disinfection and sterilization of material, linen and premises according to MSF protocols.
c- Organisation and management:
Ensure all medical procedures are carried out correctly
Ensure hygiene standards are respected
Assist in the supervision, motivation and training of the maternity team
Collaborate with the health workers to encourage them to make early referral of complicated obstetric cases to the local health centre.
d- Monitoring, analysis and reporting:
Participate in the development of the plan of action
Participate actively in the recording, monitoring and reporting of medical activities (eg registers, patient files, reports and the compilation and analysis of statistics).
Ensure relevant transfer of information to the next duty team (especially the identification of at risk cases)
Report immediately to the technical referent any problem arising in the service, especially the loss/ robbery/damage of medical equipment or medicines.
III- Specific activities linked to context:
Work on family planning
Is responsible in the community for :
-Carrying out assessments of health needs
-Health awareness/education
-Organising and implementing community based patient care and education
-Data collection and reporting
All staff are expected to maintain good relationships with specialist centres, referral centres, local organisations and the community in order to contribute to the effectiveness of the project.
