Social Worker

I- Function responsibilities: a- Network: Maintain and participate in network of partner organisations that can provide answers to social problems but also care (institutions, NGOs…etc.) to the needs of the beneficiaries. b- Social activities: During home visits and in the structures in which MSF is working, the social worker is required to conduct the following activities: Identification of social, psychosocial, socio-economic needs of the beneficiaries and related family accessing the MSF services. Provides information and advises the beneficiaries on existing social services responding to the needs detected and/or expressed by the beneficiaires and/or their families. Provides a prelimiary social assessment and the necessary care (actively listening, emphaty…etc.) to beneficiaries accessing the MSF services. Refer beneficiaires to the relevant and appropriate professionals or institutions (inside or outside MSF). Provide basic counselling-support when required. Is a case manager when appropriate. Follows-up defaulters. Involves the patient and the family in the development and implementation of individual action plans. c- Monitoring, reporting: Provides the FieldCo with a monthly report of the activities executed Participates in the development of the plan of action. Keeps statistics updated about his/her activities. Reports immediately to the fieldCo any problem arising in the service, especially the loss/ robbery/damage of medical equipment or medicines.  d- Specific activities linked to the context: Performs outreach visits and detection of cases requiring mental health support and refer appropriately.   Organises and conduct relaxation sessions and other activities related to patient care and family support. Works as a member of a multidisciplinary team ensuring fluid communication of relevant information in order to make sure that a proper management of the case is preserved.  Actively participates in clinical and medical meetings as well as community mental health events/activities.  Establishes a proper referral system with other organizations for services unavailable at the MSF structures and coordinates and follows up the referral with such partners. e- Promotion in the community: Keeps good contacts with key persons in the community and informs them about MSF services. Play a key and active role, along with the community nurse,  in the planning and implementation of presentations and awarness sessions in the community with relevant groups, political and religious leaders, partner organisations, health structures. Play an important role in the promotion of serivces with the male population. f- Additional activities linked to the context: Participate actively together with the MSF psychologist in the completion of the mental health assessment of the Syrian displace population located and currently living on the Bekaa valley. Participate actively together with MSF psychologist when the first psychological aid is provided to the Syrian patients. Is expected to be the link between MSF mental health activities and  MSF primary Health care services. Mapping of other services (medical, social etc), available in the area When asked, participate with the psychologist into some MH care sessions. II- Responsibilities to MSF: a- General knowledge of MSF: Has a general understanding of the association, its functioning, structure and values (charter). Is aware of MSF’s objectives and activities in general and in the working context. Participates actively in meetings and trainings b- Co-operation with other departments: Is aware of security rules and situation in the field at all time. Is aware of activities of other departments and respect specific rules and procedures. Provides support when necessary. c- Information: Help the understanding of general issues regarding social and political context through sharing of information. Required to keep up to date with minutes of meetings and decisions taken by the team. III- Personal qualities: Flexibility, ability to work with a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural people, open-minded, very good communication skills, ability to listen, diplomacy.
