Protection Officer - Bekaa

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental and nonprofit organization, founded in 1956, that works in more than 30 countries around the world. DRC has been operating in Lebanon since 2004, working with Palestinian and Iraqi refugees, as well as Lebanese communities affected by the war in 2006. DRC is committed to basic humanitarian principles; including impartiality and neutrality, and offers the highest standards of accountability to the people it serves. DRC Lebanon has been assisting the Syrian displaced, fleeing Syria into northern Lebanon, since May 2011. This assistance has come through the provision of food and non-food items, various outreach activities (registration, follow-up and awareness sessions) rehabilitation of collective shelters and the implementation of quick impact projects. DRC is inviting local candidates to apply for the position of Protection Officer, to support its activities under the project "Emergency Response for Displaced Syrians in the Bekaa" in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Responsibilities:Main Tasks: Preparing, monitoring and evaluating the outreach activities, including registration of Syrian displaced, follow up on their status and delivering awareness raising activities. Coordinating, monitoring and evaluating the work of the DRC outreach activity Supervision of the work of the outreach team providing coaching and support Capacity building of the outreach team in relation to all outreach activities (protection, referral, counseling, basic intervention skills, etc) Design, implement, monitor and evaluate a referral system for all the existing services in the areas of operation Archiving all the documents relevant to the outreach activities Monitoring and reporting of protection-related issues Coordination:Continuous coordination with all relevant stakeholders specifically UNHCR and the Ministry of Social Affairs (when needed) regarding the progress of the outreach activities. Reporting: Reporting back verbally on the progress of the work, to the Project Manager, as often as needed. Writing an evaluation report on the outreach activities/team (achievements, challenges, recommendations etc) Providing relevant input for the monthly reports Other: Fulfilling any other relevant duties as requested by the Project Manager, Programme Manager or Country Director. Qualifications & Experience: University degree; preferably related to social work Minimum 4 years of relevant work experience NGO experience Experienced in the field of protection Experience in emergency work is a plus Required Skills: Ability to lead groups Good communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills Commitment to the values, vision and mission of DRC Good computer skills (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) Self-motivation and strong team spirit Well-developed organizational and planning skills Ability to speak, read and write Arabic and English Starting date:1 April 2012 Conditions:DRC offers a competitive local salary and benefits package. The position will require full presence in the Bekaa (based in Chtoura) from Monday till Friday, in addition to weekends when needed.
