Ensure that only MSF drivers or persons approved by the Head of Mission (HoM) drive MSF vehicles, and report any transgression of this rule to the line manager.
Ensure that only authorised persons are transported, i.e.: MSF personnel, persons working (temporarily) for or in collaboration with MSF, and persons requiring urgent medical assistance, with the prior authorisation of a medical supervisor.
Ensure that all non-MSF passengers that have been authorised by a medical supervisor or a Coordinator complete and sign the disclaimer.
Ensure that any travel in MSF vehicles and any transportation of non-MSF persons and/or goods has been approved by the duty Coordinator, in line with the procedures in force.
Before setting off, inform all passengers that their seatbelts must be fastened, whether in the front or the rear of the vehicle; it is not the duty of the driver to insist that seatbelts be fastened.
Must never transport passengers in the back of pick-up trucks,
Must drive carefully, comply with the highway code and the speed limits specified in the Logbook; must adjust the speed of the vehicle when approaching populated areas, taking into account the condition of the road, the load on the vehicle, the technical condition of the vehicle and the weather conditions, ensuring the security of both passengers and other drivers.
Ensure that all security rules established for the Mission are followed when passing through roadblocks, customs, checkpoints, etc.
Must not, under any circumstances, smoke in or near MSF vehicles when transporting flammable materials (gas cylinders, etc.) and must ensure that all passengers observe this rule.
Protect the vehicle as far as possible against risks/accidents/theft, ensuring in particular that the vehicle is parked safely (at night, during holidays, etc.)
Ensure that the vehicle is always clean (inside and out) and in running order, in accordance with the instructions in the Logbook
Check the schedule for periodic servicing, and ensure that the vehicle arrives on time.
Add fuel when the level is below half a tank and before each weekend or public holiday. Then fill out the fuel supply card and give it to the line manager each month.
Must be in possession of a valid driving licence and check that the registration documents and other papers in the vehicle are up to date; if they are not, inform the line manager in time to renew the documents before they expire.
Scope of responsibilities
Transport MSF-CH goods and people, and ensure their security.
Ensure that the assigned vehicle is kept in good condition, in accordance with the Logbook.
Ensure that all administrative arrangements are made for the assigned vehicle.
Be familiar with the different public places in the region (restaurants, authorities, etc.) and have a good knowledge of basic mechanics.
