Ndu: Mixed Methods Research: Making The Best Of Both Worlds

The Lebanese Emigration Research Center at Notre Dame University - Louaizé has the pleasure of inviting you to a lecture entitled “Mixed Methods Research: Making the Best of Both Worlds” Lecture This seminar will discuss the value of mixed-method research designs, which combine qualitative and quantitative research strategies.  It will be argued that the research question/s be examined from various vantage points, allowing for greater depth of insight.  Further, through the process of triangulation, researchers are able to validate their findings from multiple vantage points.  It will be shown how mixed-method designs can follow a number of sequenced phases, which either start with qualitative research, which refines the questions for the quantitative phase of the research, or vice versa.  Alternatively, a mixed-method research design may involve the in-depth study of a single case, using multiple research methods including structure/unstructured interviews, participant observation, a survey and historical documentary evidence. Lecturer: Dr. Nelia Hyndman – Rizk Lecturer in Research Methods, School of Business, UNSW, Canberra Dr. Hyndman-Rizk is a trained Anthropologist and her current research is inter-disciplinary and focuses on migration studies (economic and social dimensions), globalization, New Media, and social change in the Middle East.  Her specific focus is the relationship between Lebanon and the Lebanese Diaspora and the role of transforming gender relations in post-conflict societies, as part of the Fragile States Research Program in the School of Business at UNSW, Canberra, Australia. Moderator:  Dr. Rita Sabat Ms. Rita Sabat (MA, PhD) is an Assistant Professor at Notre Dame University-Louaizé, Lebanon. Her PhD dissertation was on the women’s movement in Lebanon. She has extensive experience in teaching gender-related topics, NGOs, and civil society.
