Lebanon Reforestation Initiative

2017

Background

The Lebanon Reforestation Initiative (LRI) is a Lebanese NGO registered at the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities under no. 1186 on 18 June 2014. LRI is implementing “Influencing Decision-makers to stop Violations and Organize Community Actions Towards Environmental Engagement (I-DVOCATE)” project funded by USAID through the Baladi Cap project. I-DVOCATE aims to advocate for change in knowledge, attitudes and behavior of local communities in the field of forest protection through lobbying for the classification of forest lands in three municipalities in the Rachaiya, Shouf and Byblos regions and through establishing mechanisms in at least three municipalities for improved protection of forests from violations such as illegal cutting, intentional fires and overgrazing, among others.

Purpose of the consultancy

The consultant is expected to conduct three roundtables for three municipalities where the project is being implemented Ehmej (Byblos), Kherbet Rouha (Beqaa) and Baadaran (Shouf). The roundtables will be attended by the municipal council, members of the Environmental Committee (EC) and the pre-identified advocates for each village. The purpose of conducting these roundtables is to support the attendees in their SWOT analysis to identify their capacities in forest protection and areas in need of improvement.

The consultant is also expected to conduct a one-day experience-sharing workshop for the three municipalities identified above to discuss the roles of the ECs in forest protection and ways to strengthen their capacities.
