GIS Consultant

We are looking for a highly qualified candidate who has the skills to join DRC as GIS Consultant  

Who are we? 

DRC has been operating in the Middle East and North Africa for over a decade, running a combination of livelihood, protection, advocacy and relief projects. DRC has six project offices throughout Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Tunisia/Libya, Turkey, and both a country and regional office in Jordan. 

DRC Lebanon has been assisting the Syrian displaced, fleeing Syria into northern Lebanon, since May 2011. This assistance has come through the provision of food and non-food items, various outreach activities (registration, follow-up and awareness sessions) rehabilitation of collective shelters and the implementation of quick impact projects.

About the job 

The GIS Consultant is responsible for training DRC IM Unit on producing static and online maps. The consultant will be working with the IM coordinator for 5 days in January. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

• Provides the foundation for Understanding GIS, what it can do, and how others are using it to: 

o Learn basic functions of a GIS, GIS Terminology, and why GIS is powerful tool for data analysis. 

o Visualize geographic data, create maps, query a GIS database, and perform spatial analysis. 

o Share GIS data and analysis results 

• Train staff on how to build GIS databases and perform analysis to: 

o Create GIS databases and manage their data in a GIS database. 

o Learn the general guidelines of performing all types of analysis. 

• Web Mapping.

About you 

To be successful in this role you must have Technical degree (or equivalent experience) in computer science, information technology, computer engineering, or other relevant field.

Moreover we also expect the following: 

Required qualifications 

• At least three years’ experience in GIS; 

• Experience in designing/developing static and web maps. 

• Experience integrating analytical software (such as Tableau) with mapping component; 

• Experience in GIS database and spatial analysis. 

• Experience designing maps using commercial and open source tools;Arabic – Advance fluency level 

• English – Advance Fluency level 

We offer 

DRC will offer the successful applicant a consultancy contract until 12th of January 2018 (5 days), renewable dependent on both funding and performance. You must be available to start work from December 2017 and be willing and able to work in Beirut, Lebanon.  

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Consultancy for Employment please refer to www.drc.ngo under Vacancies. Daily fees will be based on experience and qualifications.
