WASH Manager

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Lead the WASH team;
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to the project team to implement the activities;
  • Deploy and monitor staff to achieve the project’s planned outcomes effectively and transparently;
  • Monitor activities to ensure their accurate and timely implementation, as well as constant review and improvement;
  • Represent Sawa in WASH working groups and interact with donors on specific project related issues and general WASH activities planned by the agency;
  • Manage the successful planning, monitoring and reporting of the project;
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders in support of the project in the focus areas;
  • Serve as the Project Budget Holder and oversee effective financial management of the project’s grant and activities with the support of admin and logistics teams;
  • Ensure programme quality standards are being met;
  • Develop overall project guidance in terms of work plans/budget work plans, spending plans, procurement plans;
  • Support and promote programme quality and project strengthening activities e.g. project quality meetings, and learning events;
  • Recruit and line manage relevant staff, ensuring that they have the necessary induction, training and support as required;
  • Build the capacity of staff in key project management principles, tools and approaches and ensure that these new skills are utilized on the job;
  • Initiate regular financial review meetings, involving relevant support staff to plan and monitor the budget, review procurement and spending plans, and ensure funds are spent within the time frame;
  • Ensure that funder contractual requirements are fulfilled
  • Lead on initiating relevant procurement processes, with support from Logistics, in line with programme spending and procurement planning.
  • Attend all relevant meetings;
  • Assists with the coordination of visits of funders, and/or partners related to the project

 

REPORTS TO: Programme manager.

 

SKILLS

  • Management skills and experience
  • Evidence of project cycle management experience, including strategic planning, budgeting, reporting;
  • Diplomacy, tact and negotiating skills;
  • Good interpersonal, influencing and communication skills;
  • Good written and spoken English and Arabic.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

 

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS

  • Contract duration: 12 months full-time with possibility to renew;
  • Required Starting Date: January 2018;

A Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline such as engineering or equivalent experience. Master degree is desirable; At least 3 years of previous experience in WASH; Previous work in NGOs will be an asset.
