Digital Engagement & Outreach Officer

Position Scope

The Digital Engagement & Outreach Officer will work on the design and delivery of MSF’s social media strategy in Lebanon. This new role will be responsible for the daily management of MSF’s social media accounts in accordance with the strategic digital vision in Lebanon with the Lebanon Field Communications Team as well as other contexts in the region upon request. S/he will work with the Beirut Digital Team Leader to develop tailored content and touchpoints to support communications, marketing, and events for targeted audience groups.

One of the key objectives behind creating this role is to improve the quality of MSF’s engagement with its different online audience groups in Lebanon and the MENA region as well as boosting MSF’s offline outreach through engaging digital projects and initiatives.

Working closely with the translation team, press officers, and the recruitment department, the Digital Engagement & Outreach Officer is expected to play an active role in MSF in Lebanon as well as MSF’s regional and international communications network.

The job may include occasional work assignments in MSF’s field locations to support operations in the strategic use of social media tools.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Content Management

  • Manage the editing and publication of content on MSF Lebanon social media channels, ensuring content not only reflects MSF’s mission and values and is in line with our style guide, but also is optimised for the audience and distribution

  • Work closely with colleagues to oversee the production of new social media content, ensuring the quality by editing or adapting content as necessary
  • Ensure high quality content is regularly posted, scheduled, and reviewed in collaboration with other departments and offices, as required

  • Develop digital creative products and content to further MSF’s recruitment and advocacy requirements, both in-house and by managing third parties
  • Act as a social media campaign manager for MSF’s online recruitment and advocacy campaigns in Lebanon

 

Digital Engagement

  • Oversee social media interactions with supporters, interested parties, and other organizations, ensuring MSF’s values and reputation is upheld

  • Work in an agile manner to identify communications opportunities, inserting MSF into online conversations.

  • Identify and establish relationships with social media influencers suitable to MSF’s principles
  • Use editorial judgement to guide the presentation and relative prominence of content on MSF Lebanon’s social media channels, liaising with colleagues in the MENA region and overseas as required

  • Together with the digital and communications team, develop and implement strategies for the growth of social media audiences, including horizon scanning for new platforms
  • Manage MSF’s newsletters coming out of Lebanon
  • Become the focal point for MSF’s Missing Maps project in Lebanon and run regular Mapathons
  • Engage online with the Friends of MSF societies in different Lebanese universities

 

Social Media Analysis and Reporting

  • Provide regular audits of and performance review of the different MSF social media channels in the MENA region.
  • Provide regular written updates on social media activities and outputs as part of a wider communications reporting structure
  • Gather data to feedback regarding online content performance to international colleagues responsible for content production

 

Provide Support

  • Train colleagues with different levels of experience in the production and development of digital content and distribution strategies
  • Provide ad hoc support and sometimes backup (upon request) for Field Communications Managers and Field Communications Officers on digital engagement, social media management and outreach
  • Travel to project sites in the MENA region and elsewhere to assist field teams with the delivery of digital communications content, upon request
  • As part of MSF’s international communications network, provide direct support to field teams and other offices

Requirements

  • A bachelor degree or higher in journalism, media studies, political science or a relevant field
  • At least four years of experience in developing and delivering sophisticated social media strategies with proven online content production experience and working on high profile social media accounts. 

  • A good understanding of emerging digital trends, technology and practice. 

  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to work cooperatively in a dynamic but complex organisation. 

  • Good knowledge of world affairs and a demonstrable understanding of and commitment to humanitarian issues, including good news sense and judgment on sensitive topics.
  • Experience of supporting colleagues with communications activities, either through coaching/training or assisting with particular projects.
  • Strong presentation and reporting skills.

Competencies

  • Solid grasp of Adobe products for basic design and video editing

  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of the context in Lebanon and the Middle East as well as humanitarian issues
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to meet (sometimes very tight) deadlines and manage a complex and varied workload, take initiatives and seize opportunities.
  • Ability to think creatively, use initiative and be flexible to adapt to changing priorities. 

  • Fluent spoken and written Arabic and English with excellent grasp of grammar, writing, editing and proofreading skills.

Preferable
