Première Urgence – Aide Médicale Internationale (PU-AMI) is a non-profit, non-political and non-religious International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO). The INGO’s objective is to bring a global response to the basic needs of populations suffering from acute humanitarian crisis, to allow them to recover and lead them to autonomy and dignity.
PU-AMI’s involvement in the Syrian Crisis is strong, with a wide range of programs implemented in most of the countries affected by the conflict (Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Irak).
In Lebanon, PU-AMI intervenes in several sectors: shelter and rehabilitation, infrastructure, WASH, food security and livelihoods, health, IS/CS management and protection, and education and psychosocial activities in three regions, namely the Akkar district in North Governorate, Beirut and Mount Lebanon Governorates, and Saida and Jezzine districts in the South Governorate.
GENERAL INFORMATION
PU-AMI, in partnership with Arc En Ciel (AEC), is working to improve the access to education in five public schools in Akkar district. The action aims to build the resilience of the host community through the development of positive teaching methods, the prevention of students drop-out, and the creation of safe community spaces within schools.
In order to improve the capacity of the key school actors to ensue the child protection and fight the drop out school cases, PU-AMI and Arc en Ciel will organize a training on active learning and positive teaching methods for teachers and school directors. At the same time, the capacity of the PU-AMI and AEC PSS field staff will be built to improve their efficiency and contribute to the resilience of the local community.

1 / Teachers and school directors
Within the past 3 years, PU-AMI staff has been implementing sessions of work with teachers/directors in order to improve and develop their knowledge on the psychosocial well-being of children. As part of these sessions, teachers and directors were sensitized on active learning methods to better catch children’s attention.
The directors of the schools expressed their willingness to develop teachers’ sensitization and knowledge about active learning in order to enhance children’s attention at school, fight the drop out cases and participate in improving children’s well being. For this reason, PU-AMI and Arc en Ciel will organize a fours days’ training on these topics.
2/ PU-AMI staff and AEC partner staff
At the same time, the PU-AMI Psychosocial support staff has been working with these schools for the past three years and developed great links with the local community. In the scope of the current PSS project implemented in Akkar, the PU-AMI team will progressively hand over its tasks to a local partner, namely AEC. This handover process includes a capacity building aspect on key issues related to PSS : theoretical (wellbeing, mental health) and practical (community mobilization, focused PSS, stress management). This training will enable the PU-AMI and AEC staff to improve their knowledge and effectively take over the activities with useful tools.
Thematic:
1/ Training of trainers (ToT) on active learning, positive teaching methods.
2/ Capacity Building of field staff members on introduction to Mental Health, concept of well-being, Community mobilization and focused PSS, Stress management for staff.

OVERALL CONSULTANCY MISSION General objective
1 - To improve teachers and directors knowledge and capacity in using the active learning methodology in order to better capture and maintain children’s attention at school. (4 days)
2 - Build the capacity and reinforce knowledge of PSS PU-AMI and local partner staff through introduction to Mental Health, Wellbeing concepts, community mobilization and focused PSS, stress management for staff. (2 days)
Specific objective
1.A. - To reinforce teachers and directors’ capacities through a complete information about active learning: its methods and its benefits.

METHODOLOGY
1/ Training of teachers
The training for teachers will take place in Halba and will consist in two days training for 2 different groups ( a total of 4 days) of teachers and directors (first group: 28 participants / second group: 27 participants) and will be organized according the following steps :

After this training, the teachers and directors will be fully aware about the active learning methodology and will be able to implement this new methodology of learning in order to develop and maintain children’s interest and positively impact children’s well being.
The training must be provided in Arabic but the support documents must be translated into English.
The training should be adapted for the scope of the participants (teachers and directors) and their knowledge level. It should be balanced between theatrical and practical sessions as well as exercises. Aspects of the training should be focused on discussion with the participants regarding issues they face during their everyday tasks with the children.
2/ Training of PSS field staff
The training for local field staff will take place in Halba and will consist of a two days’ workshop (from 8AM to 4:30PM).

Conclusion (Day 2)
After this training, the field staff will be fully aware of Community mobilization and focused PSS methodology, will be able to identify Mental health issues, understand the concept of Wellbeing and manage the stress related to frontline work.

INPUT PROVIDED BY PU-AMI
PU-AMI will have the responsibility of the training organization (participants invitation and transportation, availability of the training room, logistic support for the projection equipment, refreshments).
OUTPUTS EXPECTED FROM THE CONSULTANT
The consultant must provide the following elements:
Before the training:
A complete training presentation (PPP) with the pedagogic support in Arabic with the English translation.
After the training:
A list of tools, resources and guidelines useful for teachers and directors for the implementation of the active learning methods.
A list of tools, resource and guidelines useful for frontline staff on the implementation of Community Mobilization and Focused PSS. Resources to refer to for Mental Health/ Wellbeing knowledge as well as a stress management tool (leaflet).

Language skills: Fluent in Arabic and in English
Education degree: Diploma on Education, Child Psychology or other relevant thematic
Work experience: Previous experience in training of teachers on similar topic. A previous similar experience in Akkar is an asset.
