Community Protection Approach Specialist

GVC is an Italian NGO founded in 1971. Actually is working in 22 countries worldwide. GVC presence in Lebanon dates back to the begin of Syrian Crisis and since then GVC has been implementing emergency and development projects in Bekaa financed by International Donors mainly in WASH sector.

GVC is actually recruiting personnel to cover the position of 1 Community Protection Approach Specialist to support activities in Bekaa.

Position Title:                   Community Protection Approach Specialist

Reporting to:                        Project Manager

Duty station:                        Zahle office

Salary grade:                         G6/L3

 

Responsible for: 

  • Ensuring a positive and respectful work environment
  • Ensuring involvement of relevant GVC colleagues in key actions, as appropriate, including Protection Task Force and field teams
  • Mentoring and technical supervision of CPA field Officer
  • Upholding and mainstreaming research ethics
  • Compliance to GVC Community Protection Approach, identifying lessons learned and documenting these
  • Writing and updating SOPs for GVC Community Protection Approach in compliance with standard SoPs and upon validation of the Task Force CPA Specialist.

 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The CPA is a methodology which comprises a context-specific process of multi-sectorial assessment and right-based analysis to determine immediate patterns of risks and analyze the degree of the population’s resilience against such risks. Throughout this, local protection strategies are elaborated and designed to increase the capacities and empower the communities and individuals, reduce exposure to harm and develop local strategies to increase protection from the impeded access to safe and dignified life.

 

  1. Technical monitoring and supervision of GVC Community Protection Approach (CPA)
  • Defining the CPA methodology for each cluster including disaggregation of groups and CPA related steps with the field coordinator
  • Ensuring community participation and empowerment in all CPA steps implemented in each targeted localities and ensuring proper representation of the targeted population
  • Provide capacity building of field staff related to CPA steps
  • Providing technical support for field coordinator and CPA field officer in defining and managing the CPA process
  • Quality control of data collected including ensuring following SOPs and guidelines related to CPA data protection mechanism defined for Lebanon context with regular feedback provided for field coordinator and field staff
  • Provide technical support for field staff during all CPA process in compliance with guidelines for formats and tools used
  • Documentation of lessons learned and methodology and regular sharing with Global CPA specialist
  • Ensure reflections of field’s recommendation in joint discussion with Protection Specialist and regular sharing with Global Protection Specialist and Global CPA Specialist

 

 

  1. Reporting
  • Provide regular feedback for the Project Manager regarding CPA process progress and defining, including reporting of activities within project frame
  • Provide regular reporting to the Regional Protection Task Force on CPA process

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master Degree in social science, sociology, anthropology or similar subject. Background in social research will be an asset.
  • At least 3 years of previous experience in the humanitarian sector within community mobilisation
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular Word and Excel
  • Previous work in NGOs will be an asset
  • Driving licence

  • Arabic and Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Good communication skills (with local authorities and communities)
  • Understanding of and commitment to humanitarian principles and values
  • Highly organised and able to work respecting deadlines
  • Passionate in the job, flexibility and willingness to work long hours
  • Ability to work in team with respect
  • Being flexible and with the ability to adjust to changes and new requirements

 

EMPLOYEMENT CONDITIONS

  • Contract duration: 4 months full-time with possibility to renew;
  • Required Starting Date: ASAP
  • Duty Station: 50% Zahle - 50% Hermel
