Protection Mainstreaming Officer (National Contract)

About the job

The Protection Mainstreaming Officer will be responsible to ensure that protection principles are mainstreamed throughout the programme/project cycle across DRC’s sectors, partners, service providers and key stakeholder.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

• Feed into and support the implementation of a protection mainstreaming action plan and support the roll-out of DRC’s mainstreaming self – assessment tool. 

• Ensure that the activities target the most vulnerable, enhance safety, dignity, and promote and protect the human rights of the beneficiaries without contributing to or perpetuating discrimination, abuse, violence, neglect and exploitation. 

• Take proactive measures to ensure individuals and groups within the community of concern who may face difficulties accessing services are identified and supported to access services in accordance with their needs; 

• Link the distribution intervention with appropriate feedback mechanisms for affected populations to raise concerns, complaints and provide feedback. 

• Ensure that DRC sectors apply the four basic protection mainstreaming principles: 1) Avoid exposing people to further harm as a result of our actions

• Ensure people’s access to impartial assistance – in proportion to need and without discrimination 3) Protect people from physical & psychological harm arising from violence and coercion 4) Assist people to claim their rights, access available remedies & recover from the effects of abuse  

• Submit reports presenting the results of the assessments with recommendations and corrective measures 

• Support sector teams in the roll-out of protection mainstreaming action plan and implementation of recommendations 

• Train and build the capacity of DRC staff, partners, service providers and stakeholder on protection mainstreaming and maintain effective working relationship with relevant stakeholders including partner agencies, community leaders and service providers 

• Perform any other duties relating to the nature of the job as directed by the Protection manager.

About you 

To be successful in this role we expect you to have a Bachelor in Social work, social sciences, political sciences, sociology or related fields. Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required

• 3 years of experience working under Protection sector. 

• Excellent knowledge of child protection and GBV basic principles and concepts 

• Ability to maintain confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination, safety and inclusion of CP and GBV cases at all times  

• Excellent gender and age appropriate facilitation skills 

• Strong ability to organize work, meet deadlines, maintain composure, prioritize work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail 

• Experience in conducting training needs analysis/assessments and developing training programs for a broad range of audiences from different institutional levels 

• Proven experience in undertaking trainings and capacity building initiatives 

• Excellent psychosocial first aid skills 

• Strong written and oral communication skills, effective in representation and liaison with external parties 

• Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel) 

• Fluency in Arabic is a must  

• Fluency in English

Desirable

• Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity and flexibility 

• Comfortable in a multi-cultural environment, flexible and able to handle pressure well 

• Ability to work flexible hours 

• Previous experience in international organizations and humanitarian settings is a plus

We offer

  • Contract length: 4 months  
  • Level: C1, equivalent to 1650$ (monthly basic salary)  
  • Duty Station: Akkar 
  • Start date: First of April 2018
