Accountant

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Assist the Controller with the day-to day, monthly and year-end operations of the Accounting Department.
  • Perform the processing and recording of accounts payable transactions and ensure that all invoices are paid accurately and in accordance with the department’s policies and procedures.
  • Manage the processing of cash receipts, recording of revenue and receivable and work closely with the Financial Controller to ensure that revenues and receivables are reconciled at any given time.
  • Perform general accounts analysis and reconciliations, including bank statements, fixed assets, and prepaid expenses.
  • Conduct Detailed review of payment requests with associated invoices and other supporting documents for accuracy, completeness and conformity with project’s policies and procedures.
  • Prepare accounting vouchers and record transactions in the accounting system using QuickBooks Software.
  • Draft payments and submit for review and approval, to be signed by the Program Director or General Coordinator.
  • Check expense reports, advance reconciliations and other documentations submitted by staff to ensure its compliance with Ana Aqra’ and partners regulations and requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with Lebanese laws concerning taxation, labor, benefits, and contracts. 
  • Assist the Financial controller on financial, administrative, HR, and payroll matters, and ensure proper documentation is included in files.
  • Be aware of and support Finance and Administration Manager (FAM) on legal practices as well as legal obligations, Lebanese or per USAID/MSI policy, in conjunction with the appropriate authorities.
  • Administer payrolls.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Financial Controller.
  • Perform other tasks as requested by the Program Director and/ or Operations Manager.

 

 

Qualifications

 

While technical abilities are obviously vital, accountants are expected to take a more strategic role in the organization. The Accountant has to be reliable and trustworthy, and provide responsible advice on financial efficiency. Other skills include:

  3. Self-motivation & The ability to work as part of a team.
  4. Strong Analytical ability and Numerical skills.
  5. Highly organized work habits and attention to detail.
  6. Experience using Excel and Quickbooks software.
  7. Minimum two (2) to three (3) years’ experience as an accountant; of which at least one (1) year experience on a donor funded project or within an nonprofit organization.
  8. Fluency in English.
