Laboratory Doctor

Main purpose:

Organizing, carrying out and validating laboratory activities according to the MSF protocols, security measures and hygiene standards, in order to support the MSF medical team in the diagnosis of patients’ diseases.

Accountabilities:

• Ensuring the compliance to the hospital hygiene and safety protocols, both individually and collectively as well as informing staff of existing biological risks.
• Performing some laboratory tests and sample collection (serology, hematology, biochemistry...) in accordance with prescriptions as well as ensuring that quality control tests are done regularly. Informing the medical doctors of the results of the tests and keeping a record of the analysis with data from patients.
• Performing quality control tests and analysis, ensuring the compliance to the basic plans of the laboratory and that all tests (serology, hematology, biochemistry, compatibility, etc.) are done correctly and according to prescriptions
• Signing all Laboratory results from the Laboratory and Ensuring confidentiality of all patients’ laboratory results at any time, according to protocols in place
• Actively participate when needed in all meetings requiring the contribution of a Laboratory specialist such as Antibiotic Stewardship Meetings, Infection Control Committee meetings etc.
• Providing regular training to the Laboratory Technicians and team based on need assessment and as required.
• Report regularly to the line Manager as prescribed

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

• Essential degree as an Medical Doctor with a Medical Laboratory Specialty
• Licensed by the Ministry of Public Health of Lebanon and registered at the Order

Experience

• Essential 4 years’ experience in a laboratory, preferably as a Laboratory specialist
• Experience in MSF or another NGO, desirable in a clinical laboratory is an asset

Languages           

Mandatory Fluency in Arabic and English

Knowledge

Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
