Epidemiologist for the Center for the Advancement of Humanitarian Medicine (CAHM) (Position based in Amman)

Main responsibilities
1. Data Management/Collection/Analysis
 Responsible for all the different modalities of data interpretation and data analysis (including advanced secondary analysis, predictive analysis, and trends analysis) as per the operational needs of the involved MSF missions, with the goal to encourage evidence based decision making .
 Responsible for all the aspect of managing the data that is collected by different methods in different programs in the CAHM.
 Coordinates with the Middle East unit staff, cell 1 staff, missions coordination staff and HQ Medical Departmement in a way to strengthen epidemiology, data analysis and usage within MSF projects.
2. Reports Development (Health Surveillance Program)
 Leads the development of the Health Surveillance Program (HSP) community-based assessment final report after each assessment, in coordination with field teams, mission coordination teams, cell staff and with the relevant referents from the medical department.
 Ensures that HSP reports include all required advanced analysis and that the secondary statistical analysis is timely conducted.
 Helps developing operational recommendations based on the analyzed HSP data.
 Prepares easily shareable main points of findings –infographic type -- for each HSP survey results.
33. Assessment Preparation and Implementation
 Participates in the development of standard and extended survey modules for the HSP, in coordination with HSP Manager and with approval from Medical Departmement
 Participate in the preparation of any new survey modules for all other potential areas of MSF interest.
 Coordinates with the HSP Program Manager and the coordination/field teams to decide which standard and/or extended modules would be used in each survey, and to identify any other site-specific information that needs to be collected in each survey.
 Collaborates with the HSP Program Manager in defining the target sample size and sampling methodology and design for each HSP community based assessment.
 When needed, participates with the HSP program manager in conducting HSP assessments in the field.
4. Operational Research
 Planning and direct supervision for Operational Researches in the region, especially:
 Support on methodology
 Support principal investigator in protocol development
5. Emergency / outbreak inverstigation support:
 The Epidemiologist can be deployed to support emergencies in the region, providing analysis of trends
6. Representation/ Coordination
 Represents MSF as a data expert presenting MSF data results together with Middle East Operations Manager, Head of Middle East Unit and relevant Head of Missions.
 Contributes in identifying potential operational and technological partners for the Center (other OCs, other NGOs, companies, etc).
 Coordinates with the department of Organization and systems regarding innovation, new developments and support strategies.
 Coordinates with the Medical Department regarding data analysis and epidemiological considerations.
7. Contribution to the objectives of the Center for Advancement of Humanitarian Medicine
 Develops and proposes ideas for events, conferences or roundtables in relation to MSF data analysis and results.
 Participates and contributes from his/her expertise in research and innovation initiatives hosted by the Center.
 Supports the data analysis of other fields of work in the Center when requested.
 Participates in the training activities of the Center as a facilitator when required.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Education
 Advanced degree in epidemiology is preferable
Experience
 Minimum two years of experience in professional posts on data interpretation and analysis or as field epidemiologist or public health provider with exposure to cross sectional and longitudinal studies.
 MSF or other large humanitarian INGO experience is preferred.
 Working experience in the Middle East
 Experience in research programs is an asset
 Experienced with data management, data interpretation, and data analysis (including advanced secondary analysis, predictive analysis, and trends analysis).
 Proven experience in using advanced data analysis tools and softwares.
 Working knowledge of field survey procedures, including complex and non complex sampling methodology.
 Computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office
 Experience in management of STATA/SPSS .
 Experience in presenting results interpretation and anaylisis to different audiences
