Project Summary:

In September 2015, Social Impact, was awarded the Performance Management and Support Program for Lebanon (PMSPL II) project. The purpose of PMSPL II is to supplement the monitoring and program management efforts of USAID Lebanon staff. PMSPL II verifies, monitors and supports USAID’s development program in order to ensure  achievement of USAID’s strategic development objectives.  Information gathered and program support services provided by PMSPL II assist the Mission to make informed decisions and better manage Mission awards. Each award is the responsibility of an Implementing Mechanism (IM) that designs activities aimed at achieving intended results. IM activities are performed throughout the country.  PMSPL II provides consistent, relevant and frequent performance monitoring and reporting on IM activities and projects, day-to-day information needed to make management decisions, and most importantly, field monitoring support to USAID Lebanon staff, especially for activities located outside of greater Beirut.

 

Position Summary:

The Editor is expected to improve the overall quality of reporting for the PMSPL II project. The Editor will work in collaboration with PMSPL II team and support the staff in report writing and final editing of project deliverables. He/She will provide needed translation/interpreter support during field work and public events. He/she may be asked to work in collaboration with visiting STTA experts to provide needed translation/interpretation support for special studies, assessments, performance monitoring and evaluations.

Another responsibility of the editor is to work in collaboration the DOC Specialist to review daily news sources in quest of articles on USAID, or US Embassy activities in the development sector.  releases or other that are of a special interest for USAID Lebanon.

 

The position reports to the DCOP and the COP.

The position is located in Beirut, and requires frequent travel throughout Lebanon to visit Mission funded project sites.  This position is full-time with a 40-hour workweek approved. No overtime or premium pay is authorized. This administrative position will be accompanied by an appropriately competitive salary for an individual matching the desired experience and skills.

 

Responsibilities:

The Editor will be responsible for performing the following tasks:

·         Participate in the writing and revising of PMSPL progress reports.

·         Oversee reports layout (artwork, design, photography) and check content for accuracy and errors

·         Ensure compliance with USAID and Social Impact report templates and guidelines

·         Proofread, edit and improve reports and PMSPL II deliverables

·         Meet deadlines and comply with USAID reporting guidelines

·         Cooperate and liaise with PMSPL II team

·         Daily review of national news and public releases with a special emphasis on USAID areas of interest.

·         Suggest stories and generate headline ideas in alignment with USAID interest

·         Provide on-the-spot translation for PMSPL II expat consultants and expat Staff during local events and field work.

 

Qualifications :

·         This is a position for a professional editor and writer

·         Proven working experience as an editor

·         Strong writing/editing/proofreading skills with an excellent portfolio of completed work

·         Hands on experience with MS Office and InDesign, Photoshop or other publishing tools

·         Proven familiarity with social media best practices

·         Demonstrated English written skills

·         Simultaneous Arabic, French and English translation capabilities are desired

·         Fluent Arabic, French and English strongly desired; English capability should be that of a native speaker

·         An eye for detail along with critical thinking

·         Prioritizing and multitasking

·         MS degree in translation or interpreting or in related field
