Database Administratorr

MISSION

Under the supervision of the IM Program Manager, the Database Administrator is in charge of managing the database and is responsible of the performance, integrity and security of the database. He/she will troubleshoot any issues on behalf of the users.

He/she ensures that data remains consistent across the database, data is clearly defined, users access data concurrently in a form that suits their needs, and to ensure that there is a provision for data security and recovery control.

 

JOB

DB Monitoring and Administration

• Monitor performance and manage parameters in order to provide fast responses to front-end users

• Establishes the needs of users and monitoring user access and security

• Manage and test back-up and recovery plans

• Ensure that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly

• Manage the security and disaster recovery aspects of a database

• Install and test new versions of the database management system (DBMS)

• Commission and install new applications and customize existing applications in order to make them fit for purpose

• Managing and monitoring data replication

 

Organizational Responsibilities

• Work closely with IT Team

• Communicate regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security

• Provide proactive and reactive data management support and training to users

 

Documentation and Report

• Write database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary

 

Network and Infrastructure 

• Support the management of networking and infrastructure on all SI offices in liaison as per need and in collaboration with IT department

 

Competencies and skills:

• Problem-solving and good analytical skills

• Communication, teamwork and negotiation skills

• Familiarity with the main data manipulation languages (SQL, etc…) and the principles of database design

• The ability to work to tight deadlines under pressure

• Good organizational skills

• Flexibility and adaptability

• The ability to create and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues

• Experience with PostgreSQL and writing Linux scripts is a must

• Knowledge and Experience with networking infrastructure
