INTERSOS is a non-profit humanitarian aid organisation that works to bring assistance to people in danger, victims of natural disasters and armed conflicts. Established in 1992 with support from the Italian Federation of Trade Unions, its actions are based on the values of solidarity, justice, human dignity, equal rights and opportunities for all people and respect for diversity and coexistence, paying particular attention to the most vulnerable and the unprotected.

INTERSOS identifies with the core values of CONCORD, the European Confederation of NGOs; it adheres to international codes of conduct for humanitarian organisations and the values and principles expressed within those codes. INTERSOS is recognised by the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the European Commission and the principal UN agencies; it is privileged to hold an advisory status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
INTERSOS is an independent association which, through its own humanitarian operators, intervenes to effectively answer the needs of people in serious crises situations, mainly in the world's poorest regions, who are suffering, deprived of rights, dignity and essentials goods. It maintains a flexible operating structure. The head office in Italy coordinates, supports and monitors the planned activities in the countries of intervention carried out by decentralised offices.

Job purpose

Act in the best interests of the child and Work directly with children in the INTERSOS Child friendly Spaces CFS carrying out recreational, Psychosocial and educational activities and ensure that child protection principles are understood, enacted, maintained and applied in the INTERSOS Centers.

 

Duties:

Child Friendly Spaces:

  • Plan, organize and run the activities with the children.
  • Ensure children under her/his responsibility are not exposed to any form of harm or stress during the activities. Follows security rules.
  • Ensure that child protection minimum standards are implemented and respected in all activities in the CFS and that animators abide to the INTERSOS child safety policy
  • Work with children and for children. During all the time with the children:
    1. welcome them
    2. listen to them
    3. play with them
    4. guide them
    5.  make them feel comfortable and happy
  • Plan and manage activities that are:
    1. various
    2. safe
    3. adapted to the age of the children
    4. adapted to the physical and mental capacities of the children
    5. adapted to the needs of the children
    6. adapted to the number of children attending the centre
  • Facilitate and encourage the participation of all children, notably the most vulnerable ones, ensuring proper attention is paid to their specific emotional and physical needs / difficulties.
  • Be available for eventual training provided by INTERSOS or other organizations.
  • Ensure that the provided material is properly used and kept.

 

Case Management:

  • If needed refer children attending CFS to case management team or to the psychologist.

 

Administration:

  • If needed, provide proper purchase request of petty cash expenditure.
  • Sign daily attendance sheets.

 

Reporting:

  • Inform the Team Leader if needed about any logistic difficulty faced during the implementation of the activities and any difficulty faced during the implementation of the related to the interaction with the children;
  • Support the Team Leader in the development of  the following reports:
  1. Weekly activities planning
  2. Weekly activities report
  3. Inventory list for the material
  4. Monthly monitoring tool

 

Meeting:

  • Be available to participate in meetings in the centre or in INTERSOS Office.
  • Meets with other program staff as required.

 

Competencies (knowledge, skills and abilities)

Professional Competencies:

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Computer literacy (Word, Excel, outlook)
  • Analytical and Reporting skills
