Institute for War & Peace Reporting (IWPR) is an independent not-for profit organisation that works with media and civil society to promote positive change in conflict zones, closed societies, and countries in transition around the world.Under the prject entitled Alternative Voices for Syria, which is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, IWPR works with Syrian reporters, bloggers and activists to support freedom of expression and Human Rights. The work focuses on empowering women in rural areas, supporting advocacy campaigns and providing trainings on Digital Security, Advocacy and Conflict- Sensitive Journalism.

In that Regard, IWPR seeks a qualified translator. Having a highly qualified professional English- Arabic translator is vital to meet our programs objectives.

Scope of Work:

• Qualified translators for simultaneous translation from /to English and Arabic.
• limited to training materials, monitoring and evaluation documents, articles and blogs
• Research of technical and scientific phraseology to find the correct translation
• Consulting with technical program staff for details as required
• Liaising with Senior Arabic Editor to discuss any unclear points and fact-checking when necessary
• Using research tools throughout the translation process
• Proofreading and editing final translated versions as required
• Working closely with staff editors to ensure final published documents retain articles original meaning
• Prioritizing work to meet strict deadlines
• Providing subtitles for videos as required
• Performing other translation tasks as may be required by IWPR

Qualifications of Successful Individual/Company:

• Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English;
• Five (5) years experience providing professional translation services;
• Ability to prioritise own workload;
• Ability to deliver targets to set deadlines
• Strong attention to detail; 
• Previous experience working with NGOs;
• BSc degree in translation or any relevant field is a plus
