Protection Social Worker

 

Première Urgence - Aide Médicale Internationale (PU-AMI) is a non-profit, non-political and non religious humanitarian NGO. Its objective is to bring about a global response to the basic needs of populations suffering from acute humanitarian crisis and to allow them to recover their autonomy and dignity. In close respect to humanitarian principles, PU-AMI promotes humanitarian access and dialogue with all components of the civil society in Lebanon, and delivers assistance based on the needs, regardless of religion, politics and ethnic matters. 

 

Today, PU-AMI is intervening in 21 countries in Africa, the Near East, Caucasus, Asia and the Caribbean to cover the needs of populations affected by conflict, natural disasters or economic crises.

 

PU-AMI in Lebanon has been implementing emergency and recovery projects in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, in Shelter Rehabilitation, Health and in Livelihood Recovery sectors.

OVERALL MISSION

  1. GENERAL OBJECTIVE

Under the direct supervision of the protection project manager, the social worker will be in charge of social intervention with families, Lebanese and Syrian, in villages of Akkar.

He/she will identify families and individuals problems and difficulties and refer them to adequate specialized services (NGOS, MOSA, etc.). S/he will elaborate, follow and evaluate the social project with the concerned families/individual.

 

 

  1. RESPONSABILITIES AND TASKS
Role and Responsibilities                   

The social worker will focus on referrals with other departments at base level and community mobilization including: helping the base teams in encouraging protection mainstreaming and identify Child protection , Gender based violence  legal and Education cases to refer them to specialized services. The Social Worker will perform field visit with other departments at base level and will have extensive knowledge of the referral pathway in Akkar.

1.            Identification of the most vulnerable people in need

  • Join field teams from other departments (Shelter, Health, Protection, MEAL, Livelihoods) during their field visits in order to understand the environment
  • Organize visits in the different activities locations (IS, villages)
  • Conduct interviews with beneficiaries in order to identify vulnerable cases
  • Assess the needs of each cases met

 

2.            Assessment and follow-up of beneficiaries to ensure social support

  • Assess the needs of the beneficiaries and their families giving particular attention to protection concerns
  • Listen with respect and attention to the beneficiaries
  • Establish a file for each family to note the family situation, plan of intervention, follow up and updates
  • Promote the development and empowerment of people by providing social support to facilitate integration, adaptation, and rehabilitation.
  • Provide insight to Emergency Cash Assistance team on protection situation during ECA cases review

 

3.            Information and referral

  • Be knowledgeable of the services provided in the area of intervention by both INGOs, local organizations and institutions
  • Provide information on the services available to refugees and vulnerable host communities.
  • Identify the need of referral to specific services and provide required information and documentation
  • Follow up the referred cases with referral clerk weekly, through the receiving organization and/or the beneficiary, until a clear answer is given or failure recorded
  • Attend Protection related working groups and provide updates of main trends to base managers.

 

4.            Liaise with concerned internal and external actors

  • Organize information meetings in concerned municipalities in order to explain the role of the Protection Social Worker to the key stakeholders of the villages
  • Produce guidelines (how to conduct an interview, how to refer a social case…) for PU-AMI team and ensure protection mainstreaming in activities implemented by other teams at base level through the provision of protection trainings.
  • Ensure the link between the different departments of PU-AMI to refer the cases depending on the needs (shelter, wash, health…)
  • Refer the family to external actors (MOSA, NGOs…) when needed

 

5.            Reporting

  • Provide weekly and monthly activity reports to the project manager

  1. PRIORITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT
- ensure identification and referrals of protection cases in need of emergency Cash Assistance or other services provided by PU-AMi and its partners in Akkar- Raise awareness on main protection concerns in Akkar through a community-based approach (volunteers, local actors, community leaders…)- reinforce Protection mainstreaming at base level through training of other departments- Lead the service mapping of NGOs in Akkar and report on the protection trends in Akkar 

QUALIFICATIONS

Mandatory requirements
  • Language skills: Fluent in Arabic and good command of English (speaking, reading, writing)
  • Education degree: Social Sciences Licence or equivalent diploma
  • Work experience: 2 years, preferably with NGOs
  • Knowledge and skills
