Operating since 2004 in Lebanon, DRC has addressed the needs and rights of vulnerable populations, working initially with Palestinian refugees (since 2004), Iraqi refugees (2007-2010), Lebanese IDPs (during the 2006 conflict), migrant domestic workers (since 2009) and, since 2011, responding to the Syrian refugee crisis.
DRC Lebanon is currently delivering programming in protection, housing, infrastructure, basic assistance, livelihoods, and community development interventions. This myriad programming seeks to address the immediate needs of displaced populations and concurrently support vulnerable host populations. DRC has five offices spread throughout Lebanon in, Beirut, the Bekaa, Saida, Tripoli and Qobayat.
About the job
The Communications Officer will be responsible for supporting the development and dissemination of high quality communication content for DRC Lebanon to positively highlight DRC’s programmes to a variety of stakeholders, support advocacy activities in Lebanon, and support donor compliance related to communication and donor visibility.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
Produce high-quality content to support positive communication of DRC’s programs and advocacy activities in Lebanon. This will entail:
o Supporting generation of high quality communication and advocacy materials, especially stories, case studies, quotes, photographs, short videos, etc. o Regular production of digital contents (e.g. stories, photos, blogs, social media posts) and dissemination through DRC’s website and social media channels o Creating and managing an internal communication database (photos, stories, quotes) Ensure compliance with donor visibility requirements and communication guidelines by: o Maintaining an up-to-date document with all donor communication and visibility guidelines o Working with the program teams to develop visibility and communication plans for projects o Coordinating production of visibility material with DRC’s regional communication department o Managing budget lines related to communication and visibility costs Coordinate development of visual materials used for DRC programs with DRC’s regional communication department Engage local and national media and journalists to support positive communication of DRC’s programs and advocacy activities in Lebanon. This will entail: o Build and maintain relationships with Lebanese media outlets and maintain a database of Lebanese media contacts o Organize visits for international journalists to program locations (including logistical arrangements) o Generate high quality media coverage of DRC’s program and advocacy work in Lebanon. This includes contributing to developing and disseminating press releases, reactive lines, questions and answers, media briefs, etc. Regularly visit projects in the field to ensure a direct link between program work and communication, and identify and generate media and communication About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to have a A University degree in media, communications, journalism, arts or equivalent experience A University degree in media, communications, journalism, arts or equivalent experience
Moreover, we also expect the following:
Required
- Strong social media skills and familiarity with effective content creation and curation
- Creativity
- Basic photography and videography skills
- Exp: 2 years of experience in communications, media, marketing, and/or journalism preferably in an NGO or media setting in Lebanon
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Arabic
Desirable:
- Previous experience in media relations highly valued
