Improve health outcomes of women and their families and alleviate the stress and psychological suffering of vulnerable people 

Project desciption

Blue Mission is partnering with IDEALS for the Karma project.  Karma (Arabic for “dignity”) is an initiative targeting refugee and host communities in the informal settlements of Lebanon’s South and Mount Lebanon Governorates, providing aid to women and their families. The programme entails outreach to refugee and host populations living in informal settlements in the South and Mount Lebanon to assess the mental and physical health needs of their residents, with an emphasis on women and their children. The outreach staff will perform exams, provide antenatal care to pregnant women and educate the community on a myriad of important subjects; contraceptives and family planning tools will be made available to women who would like to prevent or space out pregnancies. Beneficiaries who need counselling will be referred to the Blue Mission Centre for psychosocial intervention. The project will be staffed by a midwife, psychologists, art and drama therapists, a social worker, administrative staff and community liaisons who will aid in building trust and partnerships with the refugee community, the local Lebanese host population and leaders, be they municipal, informal or religious.

The dramatherapist will be responsible of using the performance arts to provide a safe environment to help people explore, address and deal with a range of personal and social difficulties; as well providing capacity building training for the team.

Main responsibilities and tasks

  • Helping beneficiaries understand and address inner conflicts through drama and art processes such as role-play, storytelling, improvisation and script work
  • Conducting psycho-social  educational community awareness activities targeting children
  • Discussions in an interactive theater initiative aiming at raising awareness on different topics
  • Designing and implementing of structured recreational awareness and PSS Activities for children, youth, women
  • Encourage self-awareness, exploration and reflection on feelings and relationships
  • Facilitating support groups, awareness raising sessions and theater activities in order to support vulnerable children expresses their emotions in a safe environment.
  • Initiate spontaneous exploration of personal issues
  • Enable beneficiaries to experiment with new ways of thinking and behaving
  • Use appropriate equipment, materials and therapeutic props
  • Providing capacity building for activators for outreach activities, on GBV and CP
  • Take referrals from, and liaise with, other professionals such as psychologists, social workers, nurses, teachers and other therapist staff
  • Identify protection and GBV needs and contribute to the development of relevant interventions
  • Develop reports on your beneficiaries' progress and the activities that you've undertaken with them (weekly and monthly)
  • Collaborating and cooperating with other team members
  • Respect patient privacy and confidentiality, and treat them with respect and care
  • Ensuring related means of verification and collecting, entering data about beneficiaries and all the needed information in hard and soft copy
  • Participate actively in the monitoring and the reporting of PSS and outreach activities and ensure that data entry forms and templates are used correctly and data is managed timely and with high quality (patient files, forms, statistics, outreach reports) 
  • Performing any other duties relating to the nature of the job as directed by the project manager

Education and professional experience

  • University degree in drama, psychological health or relevant subjects
  • At least 2 years of experience in related field
  • Desirable previous experience with NGO

Required Skills

  • Adherence to Blue Mission’s values, policies and protocol and capacity to enforce procedures
  • Ability to conduct and coordinate training and participatory assessment
  • Focused, confident, and observant, reliable and confidential
  • Good understanding of the Lebanese humanitarian context, and specifically the South governorate
  • Arabic native speaker and very good proficiency in English, written and oral
  • Strong communication skills
  • Very good knowledge of the Pack Office, including Excel and Word
  • Respect the time schedule and be at work on time
