Social Worker

General Purpose of the Position

The Social Worker is the Focal Point for Protection in Fr Frans Van der Lugt Centre and in all Outreach activities at the Centre. He/She takes care of the psycho-social support for the forcibly displaced persons in the center. He/She reports to the Project Director and coordinates with the Principal.

Main Responsibilities of the Position

1. Protection Focal Point

• The Social Worker is the focal point for protection, responsible for the implementation of protection policies with special attention to children.
• Takes special care of vulnerable and high risk children, adolescents and adults among the people we serve.
• Support the Team in tasks related to all Protection Issues arising in the Centre and in Outreach.

2.  Psychosocial Support

• Provide basic counselling to less complex cases.
• Facilitate access and referral for cases of trauma and high-risk to competent professionals.
• Accompany and collaborate with the Home Visits Team to reach out to the families of the children.

3.  Communication and Programming

• Cultivate and facilitate contact with local organizations related to the position, in close collaboration with the Project Director.
• Analyze the needs of the forcibly displaced persons and suggest new initiatives to the Project Director.
• Elaborate an action plan, together with the Project Director and the other Social Workers of the center, resulting from a needs assessment.
