Call for Volunteers: Homework Support and English Teaching in Nabaa

Volunteer Role:

The role of the Homework Support and English teaching volunteers is to give support to Syrian refugee children in Nabaa, Beirut, as part of Basmeh & Zeitooneh’s community center activities.
The Homework Support volunteers will be supporting students who are attending public school and are unable to keep up with the pace of the class owing to the challenges faced in school, and/or a period of time spent out of school.

The volunteer will work either with Grades 1-3 or Grades 4-6 and will support in one or more of the following subjects: Arabic, English, Science and Maths.
The English teaching volunteer, meanwhile, will be providing classes to children who did not get a place in public school and are outside the school system.

These children are between the ages of 8 and 12 and need to be supported in the basics of the English language, including phonics, conversation, reading and writing.
Support will be provided to the volunteers by the organization, and training opportunities will be given where they arise.

Number of hours:
Homework support volunteers working with Grades 1-3 will come for 2 hours twice per week (total 4 hours)
Homework support volunteers working with Grades 4-6 will come for 2 hours three times per week (total 6 hours)
English teaching volunteers will come for either 4 or 8 hours per week

Skills & Qualifications:
 - Experience working with children in an educational context
 - Fluency in Arabic
 - Professional proficiency in English
 - Knowledge of the refugee context in Lebanon (preferred)
