MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Implement Project activities

Identify, assess, and respond to WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) needs among Syrian refugees’ families residing in tented settlements

Supervise the delivery, distribution, and implementation of (WASH) interventions in tented settlements

Supervise the delivery of the water trucking and desludging services and report any failure to deliver or any potential issue or complaint related to the quality of the service.

Collect and review the “means of verification” (MOV) sheets.

Conduct household spot checks for service delivery quality.

Follow up on the solid waste collection in the informal tented settlements and report any potential issue or failure to collect the solid waste.

Conduct WASH needs assessments, WASH technical assessments and distributions.

Document and report on conducted activities to ensure that needs assessed are being effectively responded to and that interventions are being documented.

Educate people about key aspects of water and sanitation in a culturally appropriate manner.

Ensure all work is carried out as per the community needs and project standards.

Identify and assess public health and hygiene risks and needs.

Timely implementation of project interventions to the target beneficiaries, while continually learning and adjusting the operational approaches.

Ensure the quality of the WASH services delivered to the target beneficiaries

Public Health risks are quickly identified and a mitigation plan is put in place to address them.

Ensure Community Mobilization

Forging relationships with people in the community in order to get the message across.

Provide active and ongoing technical oversight to “WASH community mobilizers”.

Monitor the WASH issues within target communities through the ‘WASH community mobilizers’, as well as directly through spot checks and assessments.

Mobilize, motivate and encourage potential leaders to talk to their fellow community members about good water and sanitation practices.

Develop trust, tolerance and co-operation among community members.

Active and effective ‘Community WASH Focal Points’ (e.g. Community mobilizers) are addressing the WASH needs of their own communities.

Assess WASH Risks at the field level

Identify and assess public hygiene, water and sanitation risks and needs

Report areas of concern to the WASH (Water and Sanitation Hygiene) Operations Officer

Public Health risks are quickly identified and a mitigation plan is put in place to address them.

Perform Networking

Collaborate with a number of other agencies, including local authorities and international aid workers during the implementation of WASH programs.

WASH interventions are well coordinated to reduce inefficiencies

Handle Reporting

Provide daily and weekly reports to WASH Operations Officers on project progress.

Document and share lessons learned with the WASH Operations Officers, local community members, and local stakeholders.

Project progress is regularly and accurately reported to Project Manager for decision making and accountability

Perform other duties as required

Attend and participate in capacity building trainings locally and internationally

Attend and participate in WVL’s spiritual nurture and other organizational events

Responsible of own security and actively contribute to a positive security culture

Abide by the security policies and procedures and report any incidents or breaches to line manager and / or security manager.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Line Manager

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Proven ability to build capacity of partners/ stakeholders through formal trainings and informal job shadowing and mentoring
  2. Good interpersonal skills
  3. Must have cross-cultural sensitivity, problem solving and negotiation skills.
  4. Must have a genuine concern to help the community members
  5. Good team building skills; a creative, innovative, and adaptability personality.
  6. Ability to cope and work under pressure.
  7. Ability to maintain performance expectations in diverse cultural and difficult / sensitive contexts.
  8. Ability to spend 80% of job in the field
  9. Ability to review and write reports and manage data effectively
  10. Has strong knowledge of core principles of Children Rights, Participation, Do No Harm, as well as Children in Emergencies minimum standards.
  11. Has strong knowledge about WASH distribution
  12. Previous experience in a similar position
  13. Familiar with the Syrian crisis and Informal tented settlements (ITS) environment
  14. Ability to draft daily and weekly reports
  15. Good communication skills
  16. Experience in conducting rapid needs assessments
  17. Experience in attending and supervising items distributions
  18. Team work oriented
  19. 80% field work, 20% office work
  20. Position requires availability and willingness to work outside regular office hours occasionally.
  21. Position requires willingness and ability to continue to function during a crisis situation, including during a World Vision response to a manmade or natural disaster.
