Electronic Repair Trainer (Air Conditioners and refrigerators)

Alliance2015 is a strategic partnership of seven European non-governmental organisations engaged in humanitarian and development activities. The Alliance2015 members operating in Lebanon include ACTED (France), Cesvi (Italy), Concern Worldwide (Ireland),  Hivos (The Netherlands).

The Alliance2015 Partnership, represented by lead agency ACTED, Cesvi, Concern and Hivos, is running a programme that aims to address root causes of conflict and instability in Lebanon, through the creation of sustainable income-generating and livelihood opportunities for vulnerable populations. Over three years, Alliance2015 partners will work directly with 1,800 individuals, 18 Social Development Centres (SDCs) and at least 27 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across Lebanon. The integrated programme targets vulnerable communities with economic inclusion activities through three main pathways: (1) Building the capacity of SDCs leads to an improved delivery of livelihood-related services; (2) Improving the technical and soft skills of vulnerable individuals to ensure increased economic opportunity and reduce negative coping mechanisms and tensions and (3) Improving the capacity of the private sector leads to growth and job creation. Activities include providing livelihood-related resources, assets and renovations to each targeted SDC; offering TVET and soft skills training, paid apprenticeship programs and job-matching services to vulnerable individuals; and providing businesses development services and value chain support to MSMEs.

 

Assignment

The trainer is responsible of adapting the Electronic Repair curriculum developed by ACTED to answer the market’s needs and conduct 90 hours of training for 80 vulnerable Lebanese and Syrian beneficiaries (16 per center) at the Social Development Centers (SDC) in the areas mentioned above in order to provide them with the needed techniques to allow them enter the job market through working in factories/repair shops or from home.

Functions

Main responsibilities

  • Draft a detailed BoQ (Bills of Quantities) of the materials needed for establishing the training programme
  • Provide 90 hours (50% theoretical and 50% practical) of Appliance Maintenance and Repair (Air Conditioners and refrigerators) Training at the Social Development Centers mentioned above as per the curriculum given by ACTED (see below Annex A – Table of Content)
  • Deliver training sessions of 4 to 5 hours long for each session to a mixed group of 16 beneficiaries based on pre-defined schedule by the training Coordinator/Project Manager
  • Monitor and track training feedback from beneficiaries
  • Provide record and evaluate effective training activities
  • Review and evaluate tests/assignments completed by beneficiaries
  • Assist ACTED team in finding interested companies and institutions for internships and/or job placement
  • Provide ad-hoc support to beneficiaries through answering questions, providing additional resource materials etc.

 

Reporting

  • Register daily attendance of beneficiaries as per the attendance sheet provided by ACTED team
  • Follow up and report the number of sessions provided and report to the training coordinator/Project Manager
  • Provide weekly work plan to the training Coordinator/Project Manager
  • Provide weekly reports to the training Coordinator/Project Manager updating on training progress

 

Coordination

  • Coordinate with SDC Director and Project Manager with all updates related to the implementation process

 

Target audience and profile

  • The training will be delivered to mixed groups aged 18-35 with at least basic literacy and numeracy
  • Beneficiaries’ selection will be carried out by ACTED team

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor degree in Appliance Maintenace/Electronic Repair or related fields
  • Previous experience in teaching and/or conducting trainings
  • Have one or more qualified personal on the team with relevant technical qualifications and/or 3-5 years of experience working in appliance maintenance and repairs
  • Patience and positive attitude is highly requested
  • Ability to provide explanation to trainees when necessary
  • Excellent command of written and oral English and Arabic
  • Strong communication skills
  • Good presentation skills
  • Good reporting skills
  • Understanding of aspects related to group dynamics and personal psychology

  1. General overview about electronics and household appliances
  • Introduction to basic electronic and mechanical repair of household goods 
  • Introduction to the tools required to repair refrigerators and air conditioners
  • Control board configurations used in appliance repair
  • Working with and handling electronics boards when repairing household appliances

 

  1. Refrigerators – Preventive and Corrective Maintenance
  • Introduction to existing types of refrigerators within the Lebanese market (top mount, side by side and French door refrigerator etc.)
