Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Under “The Bill for the Protection of Women and Family Members Against Domestic Violence”

Violence against women is directly linked to the historic discrimination against them. It is an expression of the gendered imbalance of power that has resulted in a gap intensified by the existing legal, social, and cultural institutions. Eliminating gender-based violence can only be achieved by addressing gender gaps, which require the adoption of specialized policies and programs. The Lebanese government ratified the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women in 1996, and civil society utilizes it as a standard reference to eliminate discrimination against women from the existing legislations as well as to improve on them in order to create a more women-friendly environment.
