ICMP’s Syria/MENA Program works with governments and other stakeholders to account for missing persons from the region, with a focus on persons missing from the Syria conflict and related migration. The program also complements ICMP’s broader efforts to assist in locating persons from the MENA region who are missing due to irregular migration, human trafficking, disasters and other causes. ICMP seeks to:

-contribute to increased understanding among victims, civil society and key stakeholders, on processes, standards and rights of victims involved in accounting for missing persons;

- establish the conditions to launch a process of data collection that includes relatives and survivors with missing persons from the conflict; and,

- increase the capacity of Syrian families, legal experts and other communities to foster a rule- of-law approach to account for missing persons in post-conflict Syria.

 

The Program Coordinator supports the Head of Program in the implementation of the MENA Program in Lebanon, Turkey, Jordan, and Iraq. This includes coordinating with Syrian refugees, partners, civil society organisations and governments.

Outcomes:

1. Coordinating the identification of key stakeholders (mapping) and the development of trust and working relationships with community leaders, civil society, and representatives of family associations;

2. Coordinating the capacity-building events and meetings with communities, families of missing persons, CSOs and NGOs;

3. Coordinating the development of relationships with civil society actors and families conducive to securing success for ICMP program.

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Head of Program, the Program Coordinator’s duties and responsibilities will include, but will not necessarily be limited to, the following:

  • Supporting the development and implementation of the MENA program; working with staff across the MENA team;
  • Coordinating the preparation of relevant reports on data gathered or shared, and to any other internal or external reporting;
  • Coordinating relevant administrative and logistics tasks; such as taking minutes on internal and external meetings, maintaining contact lists;
  • Contributing to the preparation of relevant external and internal reports and correspondence;
  • Contributing to the translation of program-related documents, materials and correspondence and providing interpretation support to ICMP's international staff during events and meetings;
  • Coordinating the monitoring, analyse and disseminate intel on regional political and social developments related to Syria to identify threats and opportunities to ICMP’s objectives (program & advocacy);
  • Acting as a central coordinating point for the Program team located in Lebanon, Turkey, and Iraq;

REQUIREMENTS

  • Post Secondary. A Bachelor's Degree in: political science, sociology, law, or other relevant discipline is highly desired;
  • At least 3 to 4 years of relevant coordination and planning related experience;
  • In depth understanding of the Syrian conflict and the region, as well as work experience related to Syria is essential;
  • A proven track record in programs, organisations of events, research, or advocacy related to conflict on Syria or the region.
  • Relevant contacts on Syria, on the CSO/NGO sector, in politics or the media;
  • Understanding of the challenges involved in working on sensitive human rights / humanitarian issues;
  • Ability to identify opportunities and suggest new and innovative activities.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent knowledge of English and Arabic is essential, to include demonstrated oral and written communication skills;
  • Knowledge of Turkish and Kurdish is an asset;
  • Excellent organizational skills and the drive and initiative necessary to take ideas forward to fruition;
  • Excellent planning and prioritization skills;
  • Demonstrable experience organizing events and meetings and handling logistics;
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point;
  • Proven ability to interact positively with colleagues regardless of culture, nationality or gender;
  • Willingness to travel and to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings;
  • Capacity and willingness to work in sometimes challenging circumstances and under hardship living conditions.
  • Capacity to establish and maintainin effective interpersonal relationships.
