ECCD Teacher - Danniyeh

ROLE PURPOSE: The ECCD teacher will be facilitating the delivery of the Community Based – Early Childhood Education curriculum in Save the Children’s centers. The Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) program targets children between the age of 3 and 5 who have no access to formal education. The ECCD teacher will implement the Community Based – Early Childhood Education curriculum in the classrooms and perform other associated duties as are reasonably assigned by Save the Children, thereby providing a safe, secure, stimulating environment in which each individual achieves his or her full potential.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTIBILITY:

  1. Relationships
  • Work collaboratively with the Education Capacity Building Coordinator during the coaching sessions.
  • Report updates of the center to the Education Assistant.

 

  1. Particular Responsibilities
  • To be fully aware of, and endear to, Save the Children’s Code of Conduct and Safeguarding policies and procedures and to ensure its implementation
  • To maintain positive discipline practices in accordance with the Save the Children’s Code of Conduct and Safeguarding Agreements
  • To create conducive teaching learning environment where the students get education as per desired format of Save the Children with approval from Ministry of Higher Education, MEHE.
  • To ensure that children feel comfortable, safe and respected
  • To monitor and evaluate the children’s progress and welfare
  • To maintain a well-organized teaching area which displays children’s work and has readily accessible resources
  • To control and oversee the use and storage of all resources and equipment at the end of the day
  • To demonstrate and encourage non-discriminatory working practices.
  • To maintain a child-friendly and safe learning environment in the classrooms by following the positive discipline approach.
  • To supervise students upon reaching and leaving the classrooms.
  • To respect Save the Children’s premises (ensuring classrooms are tidy and any accidental damage is reported to the Teacher Supervisor immediately)
  • To liaise with Save the Children staff on internal issues. This includes attendance at meetings and trainings organized by Save the Children
  • To encourage parental involvement by being a liaison between Education Assistants and parents
  • To attend and actively participate in trainings provided by Save the Children.
  • To cooperate and support the monitoring and evaluation process of the Education in Emergencies activities with a particular focus on learning outcomes.
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches.

 

  1. Curriculum 

The post-holder will be asked to implement the Community Based – Early Childhood Education (CB – ECE)  Curriculum.

The post-holder will be asked to use the Early Literacy and Mathematics activity cards.

The post-holder will share the challenges acquired when implementing the curriculum with the Education Capacity Building Curriculum.

  1. Child Safeguarding

Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Science or similar is an asset
  • An understanding of formal and non-formal education, education in emergencies, national development issues, particularly in relation to children and education, government institutions and the Lebanese public school system;
  • Good understanding of education quality issues, including child-centered, inclusive and active learning methods and willingness to continuously update his/her skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and French.
  • Ability and willingness to change work practices and hours, and work in an insecure volatile context;
  • Commitment  to  and  understanding  of  Save  the  Children’s  aims,  values  and principles  including rights-based approaches.

 

Desirable:

  • Prior teaching experience preferably targeting students between the age of 3 to 5.
  • Experience working at community level with a wide range of stakeholders;
  • Prior experience in a similar position with a local or international NGO.
