Child Protection and Media Consultant

About the project:

Since 2013, KAFA has partnered with UNICEF in a project titled “Protecting children, adolescents and women from Gender Based Violence” aiming at enhancing the protection of vulnerable children and adolescents affected by the Syrian crisis from GBV (early marriage, sexual abuse...), through promoting their right to information by improving their access to adequate services and their awareness on how to protect themselves from GBV. The project is ongoing for the sixth consecutive year.

In 2019, KAFA will continue its partnership with UNICEF in the same project through operating an Adolescent Friendly Space in Chtaura and the Support Center (SC) in Bekaa and Badaro as well as developing national tools to prevent child protection risks. This year, a Child Protection Policy for media institutions will be developed to be endorsed by TV stations and online newspapers and related websites to protect children's confidentiality and privacy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a desk review on previous related policies
  • Identify the stakeholders who should be involved in the design and development of the policy as well as in its implementation, monitoring and evaluation
  • To practice facilitating participatory discussions and managing consensus about child protection within these institutions amongst different stakeholders
  • Identify which elements of a child protection policy should be ‘essential’ to your policy and which should be ‘desirable’
  • Draft the child protection policy
  • Participate in regular coordination meetings with KAFA staff members
  • Provide reports upon request.

 Key Characteristics:

  • Compulsory experience in GBV core concepts and child protection,
  • Understanding/experience in working with media institutions,
  • Possessing effective communication skills.

 Professional Standards:

While working on this project, the consultant is required to sign KAFA’s Child Protection Policy and Code of Conduct.
