Psychiatrist - Beirut and Mount Lebanon

Task Description: Consultant will serve as the Psychiatrist project’s activity in BML Lebanon. Specifically, Consultant will complete the following tasks:

 

Scope of Work:

Based on the international Medical Corps Mental Health and Psychosocial Support guidelines, the consultant psychiatrist will:

  • Organize data concerning patient's family, medical history, and onset of symptoms obtained from patient, relatives, and other sources, such as nurse and general practitioners.
  • Examine patients to determine general physical condition, following standard medical procedures.
  • When needed, order laboratory and other special diagnostic tests and evaluate data obtained.
  • Determine nature and extent of mental disorder, and formulate treatment program.
  • Treat or direct treatment of patient, utilizing variety of psychotherapeutic methods and medications.
  • Prescribe drugs or any type of treatment methods suitable for the patient in addition to talking with patients and help them understand and cope with their problems.
  • Keep track of patient numbers/cases through IMC outpatient records, to be submitted at the end of every month.
  • Attend weekly or biweekly meetings including the technical meeting with the rest of the multidisciplinary team or case management team and the area levels.
  • Reports directly to IMC Senior MHPSS Officer.
  • Coordinate with IMC MH technical Advisor and MH coordinator for technical support and follow up.
  • IMC psychiatrist can refer patients to the hospital when needed upon consultation with the IMC MH Technical Advisor and based on the approval of both the MH Advisor and MH Coordinator.
  • Conduct on the job supervision observation for primary health care providers along with the trainer.
  • Fill in the individual care plan and update it on regular basis.
  • Attend monthly meetings with the MHPSS Coordinator and MH Advisor to present and discuss cases, the psychiatrist will also attend working sessions and trainings organized by IMC.
  • Take part in research activities, mapping exercises or assessments based on mutual consensus with the IMC management team.

 

Qualifications:

  • Licensed Psychiatrist.
  • Completed all necessary registration with the MoPH and LOP.
  • Specialized Training.
  • Fluent in spoken Arabic.
  • Previous NGO experience is a plus.
  • Personal interest in humanitarian work.
  • Willing to adhere to clinic schedule.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
