Capacity- Building consultant

Background:

The current project aims to contribute to a dignified life for refugees and vulnerable host communities in Lebanon through diminishing protection threats and their effects while at the same time supporting and strengthening collective efforts among local CSOs. The action is a continuation on the work of the Working Group for Persons Affected by the Syrian Crisis (WG PASC), a protection advocacy network of national and local Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), supported by Oxfam and facilitated by ALEF.

The project involves enhancing WG PASC’s strategic capacities to work jointly and influence decision-making and policies on the Syrian crisis more effectively. The network management capacities of ALEF will also be developed in order to ensure to ensure better efficiency, impact and sustainability of the action.

Key tasks:

  • Conduct an internal capacity assessment exercise for the organization, which will help determine elements that need to be strengthened in ALEF’s networking, coordination, monitoring and evaluation, budget monitoring, financial management, donor compliance, reporting procedures, and others
  • Identify main topics that individual partner organizations want to increase their capacities in throughout the duration of the project, and develop the tools to conduct assessments on each individual basis.
  • Design and roll out a capacity- building plan to respond to the capacity- building needs of ALEF through training, one-on-one mentoring and coaching.
  • Design and integrate capacity- building tools such as suggested systems and procedural guidelines that the ALEF team can adopt

Expected deliverables:

  • Submit a preliminary work plan and methodology one week after the start of the consultancy
  • Conduct the capacity building assessment exercise, and present its findings to the project team
  • Roll out the capacity- building plan
  • Carry out and present an evaluation of the capacity- building exercise

Required skills and qualifications include:

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills,
  • Significant experience in NGO capacity building, training, and facilitation
  • Demonstrated experience developing training curricula, including workshop agendas, presentations, and training exercises;
  • Familiarity with a wide range of capacity building techniques.
  • Prior experience working with civil society organizations, preferably in a management capacity.
