Programme Support Officer (Protection PSS Capacity Building)

About the job

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • The Program Support Officer (Protection PSS Capacity Building) has the overall responsibility to supervise and support the delivery of DRC’s protection program-quality psychosocial support (PSS) activities to children, caregivers and in a timely and efficient manner. Additionally, the officer has a key role and responsibility to build the technical capacity of community based organizations and partners on PSS related activities, designed to target children and caregivers.
  • The Program Support Officer (Protection PSS Capacity Building) has the overall responsibility to ensure that both DRC and partner are delivering quality psychosocial support activities to children and caregivers in a timely and efficient manner with technical guidance from the protection team leader.
  • Provide technical guidance, on the job training, coaching and mentoring to the PSS team on child protection and GBV minimum standards and on the principles of psychosocial support, learning and development principles for children and adults.
  • Conduct field visits to observe PSS activities at least two days a week and provide technical guidance on facilitation skills, child protection, GBV and PSS key messages and communication skills and ensure that the PSS team are able to identify and safely refer cases to specialized and other needed services.
  • In close coordination with the protection team leader and M&E department, ensure that partners are being monitored for progress against deliverables and their capacity-building plan, as well as against donor compliance and internal DRC procedures.
  • Support the PSS team (DRC and partners) to develop a weekly, monthly and yearly work plan. Update it regularly and follow-up on its implementation in a qualitative manner and ensure staff are sufficiently trained and supported to understand the expected outcome and purpose.
  • Conduct weekly/as needed visits to the partner’s activities, to ensure the implementation is done according to the agreed capacity-building plan.
  • Contribute to the overall protection monthly report underlining protection issues and related trends and figures in coordination with the Protection Team leader.
  • In coordination with the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) officer, ensure the quality implementation of the grants’ MEL plan. Share the results and lessons learned in a timely fashion with the relevant parties
  • Maintain positive relations with local implementing actors, local authorities and other international and local stakeholders through information sharing and coordination.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have a Bachelor/Degree in Social work, Counseling, psychology or other related field. Moreover, we also expect the following: 

Required 

  • At least 3 years of experience in international organizations and humanitarian settings, specifically in Child Protection, PSS and/or GBV sectors.
  • Fluency in Arabic and ability to communicate and write clearly in English is a must.
  • Experience in conducting training needs analysis/assessments and developing training programs for a broad range of audiences from different institutional level.
  • Experience in working in capacity building and partners
  • Excellent knowledge in the following:
    • Child Protection and GBV minimum standards and basic principles
    • Psychosocial support basic principles and PSS key messages to vulnerable children and caregivers
    • Community based PSS implementation and capacity building.
    • Child and adult development and learning
    • Basic facilitation skills
    • Safe identification and referral principles

Desirable

  • Good knowledge and understanding of GBV and Child Protection case management

We offer

  • Contract length: 4 months
  • Band/Level: H2, Basic Salary: 1750 USD (depending on years of experience)
  • Duty Station: Akkar
  • Start date: First of July 2019
