Gender Specialist - North

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Gender Specialist provides technical guidance and oversight on implementation of a large multi-sectoral project in North Lebanon, ensuring that the SC North Field Office SIDA programme is gender sensitive at a minimum and supporting the program to transition to gender transformative. This role will have specific focus on a large integrated child protection programme focusing on Children Associated with Armed Conflict The position holder is expected to ensure gender mainstreaming throughout implementation, monitoring and evaluation, of the project, focusing on transitioning from a gender sensitive to a gender transformative approach.

 

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3 – the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people.

 

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: North Area Manage. As well as technical dotted line to Child Protection and Gender Technical Adviser 

 

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Strategic planning

- Develop gender equality action plan for the Sida Hum programme in the North Field Office, based on recommendations already provided by previous Gender Adviser.  

- Ensure that a clear process is in place for tracking and reporting on progress against the gender mainstreaming action plan.

Programme quality and standards

- Provide gender technical expertise, quality assurance and support for Save the  Children's programmes in North Field Office, with specific focus on one large child protection Sida Hum funded programme.

- Guide the team in delivering, and adapting if necessary, the existing key recommendations for gender equality mainstreaming across programme components in the Sida Hum Programme. 

- Coordinate the development of a gender technical capacity building plan for staff, working with field teams to prioritise training needs and resource these appropriately.

- Conduct any necessary refresher gender equality/mainstreaming trainings to staff and trainings to partners in North Field Office.

- Ensure documentation of case studies and dissemination of these both internally and externally working with the Media and Advocacy team.

- Draft high quality reports on project progress.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES:

- Master’s Degree in International Development / Relations, Women and Gender Studies or related field, or equivalent training/experience.

- 3 – 6 years’ field work experience implementing, managing, and/or providing technical assistance to programs in developing countries, including with focus on gender mainstreaming/gender focused programs; focus on child and youth programming desirable.

- Strong experience on designing and delivering gender-focused trainings with a variety of actors.

- Strong Knowledge of gender equality principles and practices including social norms and traditional practices.

- Experience with gender-sensitive child rights programming in areas including Child Protection, education and Livelihoods.

- Experience working in a range of Middle East contexts and countries ideally Lebanon.

- Experience in gender advocacy or policy work, or other regional or national mechanisms to advance gender equality is an asset.

Other Requirements

- Demonstrate strong commitment to Save the Children’s Mission, Vision and Values. Previous experience with child rights programming is an asset.        

-  Adhere to Child Safeguarding policies & procedures.

- Computer literacy including Internet, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
