Database Developer

 

Key tasks and Deliverables

  • Coordinate and work closely with the IOM Emergency and Stabilization team to enhance an existing Access database application.
  • Update the existing database with additional components for new projects within the Emergency and Stabilization Unit.
  • Design the database and the reporting function in a way that is user-friendly, efficient, and time-saving so that the end-user can select different fields to generate the query or report.
  • Test/debug the database system.
  • Modify and edit the database based on IOM’s new requests during the testing and early-usage phases.
  • Train assigned project staff on the use of the database
  • Ensure robust Information Security procedures and principles pertaining to relevant data protection and confidentiality aspects (including appropriate data backups), in accordance with IOM IT standards and procedures
  • Liaise with the IT department to ensure that physical checks and balances for data protection (including encryption) are in place and properly implemented
  • Provide a user manual to the users with guidance on how to use the different functions of the database.
  • Provide additional 3 months of free trial and maintenance after delivering the application.
  • Provide the original database source to IOM, to update it whenever needed.

 

 

Timeline

The start date of this consultancy is as soon as possible and the database system should be finalized and delivered within 2 Months, including time required for testing, troubleshooting and debugging.

Consultants that meet the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:
• Minimum of 3 years work experience in database design and programming, and data management
• Ability to design the structure of the database and write appropriate interfaces (e.g. Microsoft Excel) for data entry and ensure data quality and security
• Experience with mobile data collection technology and software or any of the ODK tools
• Experience in training project personnel in the use of database management applications
• Maturity and professional ability to handle sensitive information and ability to respect the confidentiality of such information while working with IOM and even after the contract ends.
o Proven ability to work effectively with others - including in multicultural team – and strong interpersonal skills
o Ability to work under pressure, and commitment to meet deadlines
