Safe Healing and Learning Space - Play Facilitator (Tripoli) - FOR NATIONAL CANDIDATES ONLY.

Background/IRC Summary:  

Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is an international organization specialized in emergency and humanitarian programming. In January 2014, as part of the Child protection programming the IRC began the implementation of a specialized pilot program for street and working children- activities include the provision of psychosocial support and case management services for Street and Working Children in Mount Lebanon/Beirut.

 

Job Overview/Summary:

The SHLS Play Facilitator will be responsible for working closely with street and working children. The SHLS Play Facilitator will work in and around Tripoli conducting PSS activities; follow up and monitoring of children’s working hours on the street). Internally the SHLS Play Facilitator will be working closely with the CP PSS Assistant.

 

Who this position reports to:

  • PSS Assistant

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and support children’s play activities for a minimum of 4 hours per day amounting to 80 hours per month, at the agreed times and Conducting community awareness activities on the SHLS.
  • Ensure a safe and child-friendly atmosphere within the closed spaces, and Safe Healing and Learning Spaces, including no physical discipline or fighting, and making sure other team members are following the IRC Child Safeguarding Policy.
  • Ensure a variety of structured games and activities within the SHLS, catering to the needs of children of different ages, genders, and abilities.
  • Implement PSS activities (Life Skills, Community Based, Awareness Sessions), to street connected children in CP SHLS’s and mobile activities. 
  • Ensure the SHLS Center is safe, equipped, and clean for children on a daily basis.
  • Maintain and keep daily records of children attendance.
  • Consistently consulting children on all aspects of the SHLS and taking their views into account.
  • Getting involved – sitting with the children and encouraging them.
  • Speaking with parents of children who are not participating and encouraging them to let their children participate.
  • Providing opportunities for safe expression: build a relation of trust and understanding with children.
  • Developing rules with children and apply consistently: develop these rules with the children themselves. Rules must be fair, appropriate and agreed on by the children themselves
  • Providing opportunities for children to participate in designing and conducting activities
  • Ensure that children feel comfortable, safe, and respected.
  • Ensure that all games and equipment are accounted for, clean, and stored securely at the end of the day.
  • Screen for and monitor protection needs and gaps in and around the SHLS

  • All IRC staff is required to adhere to THE IRC Way Standards for Professional Conduct and the IRC country employment policies.

Job Requirements:    

  • Be a positive role model and demonstrate conflict-solving behaviors.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience of implementing child protection programs.
  • Demonstrated understanding of working with children and particularly vulnerable children.
  • Personal qualities: Team player, flexible, network-builder, able to handle pressure well and work in cross-cultural setting.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic, English speaking is a plus.
  • Staunch advocate of child protection and child rights.

 

Desirable not essential

  • Experience working with street and working children
  • Experience working with Syrian, Dom and Turkmen communities
