Senior Child Protection in Education Officer

Specific responsibilities:

  • Provide technical guidance and direction for effective planning, implementation and monitoring of PSS activities provided to vulnerable children/adolescents and their families in education centers and local communities;
  • Function as the focal point for child protection within education activities;
  • Plan, organize and co-ordinate the CP activities of the project;
  • Make frequent centers visits to monitor staff’s performance in terms of applying CP and PSS skills and approaches;
  • Design trainings and capacity building plans for organization staff including community volunteers, partners, support staff such as drivers, CBO and NGO members and SDCs, considering especially priority thematic areas such as CP in education, psychosocial support, safe identification and referral, and community resilience;
  • Support the Project Manager in budgeting capacity-building activities, where needed;
  • Provide frequent written reports and recommendations to ensure that field-level activities effectively integrate international and national CP frameworks;
  • To establish and regularly monitor and effective center based CP mapping and referral system for CP cases;
  • Refer beneficiaries requiring special care to relevant internal and external CP providers, and follow up the referred cases' conditions in collaboration with the outreach worker of the relevant location;
  • Work with the TDH IT M&E/Data unit to ensure appropriate monitoring and evaluation systems are in place, support staff in all monitoring processes and provide monthly and weekly reports on progress of activities in the centers;
  • Organize monthly meetings with Animators, teachers and Volunteers, to share lessons learned and exchange experiences in terms of CP and PSS activities implementation;
  • Establish working relationships with other agencies operating in the mission area;
  • Coordinate and participate and/or contribute substantively to general training programs, workshops and expert group meetings, at organizational and consortium level;
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of staff involved in the education, psychosocial support, and CP activities;
  • Help to design and supervise the Community Outreach intervention (home visits, focus group, community meetings, awareness sessions), ensuring a direct participation of the beneficiaries in the planning of the activities;
  • Assist in addressing complaints about the behavior of organization staff related to the infringement of CP policy & Code of Conduct and child rights;
  • Provide regular written reports to the Project Manager, CP Expert, consortium, and relevant task forces;
  • Support the Program manager in drafting the quarterly and final reports to be sent to the donors;
  • Represent the agency/organization in meetings with other partners and other actors, to advocate and promote program goals and objectives, and communicate with major partners on policies (when needed);
  • Liaise with other agencies/NGOs/government bodies/donors to ensure coordination, implementation of common standards in the field and consideration of protection issues in assistance programs;
  • Participate in other field visits, assessment and monitoring missions, press and donor visits as necessary;
  • Contribute to lessons learned and project planning workshops, including strategic and financial planning as needed;

Essential:

  • A minimum 4 years’ experience in a program position preferably with Local or International NGOs in the field of child protection;
  • Experience working with Syrian refugee communities in Lebanon is mandatory;
  • Experience of building field staff’s capacities through trainings or learning by doing;
  • Excellent communication, reporting, and proactive training skills;
  • Ability to conceptualize, develop, plan, suggest and manage trainings;
  • Strong commitment to humanitarian and child protection values;
  • A very high sense of discretion and integrity when dealing with child protection cases;
  • Commitment to the aims, principles and values of TDH IT;
  • Substantial experience in emergency and post-crisis environments;
