- Background
Secours Islamiq France and Safadi Foundation are implementing a “Food security and Livelihood” (FSL) project in Donnieh, Tripolie and Mina region. The main objectives of the Project are: 1) Offering technical and financial assistance to farmers and food processing groups that would help them to develop and added value of their products in quality and in quantity, 2) Support farmers and food processing group with access to markets. The Project is part of a longer-term strategy aiming at supporting and reinforcing capacities of local stakeholders, mainly farmers, local rural women.
- Purpose
Safadi Foundation is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and experienced Consultant in Darfieh Cheese and Leather Making to join its Training Team. The successful national candidate will be expected to:
- Provide training content / curricula / field manuals /and information database.
- Deliver technical trainings for training providers.
- Provide advice on best practice in the relevant sector in Lebanon to maximize support for participants to market linkages.
Participants in the training are foreseen as men and women, living in the areas of Donnie, Tripoli, and Mina. The general objective of the consultancy is to train around 25 farmers how to produce Darfieh cheese including the production of the Darf itself (the way the goat leather is cut, dried, dehaired, treated and prepared for the Darfieh Cheese)
- Overall Responsibility
- Introduce theoretically the Darfieh Cheese and the Leather making associated with it.
- Develop the required procedures for the traditional type of cheese that will be introduced.
- Conduct live demonstration (practical explanation) of the cheese making procedure with farmers attending the training
- Prepare a manual that includes written information as well as graphics, to be distributed at the end of the training including all the explanation of the cheese making and the leather preparation procedure.

- Tasks and Responsibilities
- Conduct brain storming sessions with the Food technology officer and/or the FSL Officer to have a project objective context and get a brief about the project.
- To use power Point Presentations, videos and case studies in training sessions as well provide participants with brochure and manuals.
- Final report of findings and recommendations: The Consultant shall report directly to SF’s Tripoli Office, in particular, to the Food Security and Livelihood Officer. S/he will submit the following reports at the end of the training sessions:
- Presentation of training outcomes to the SF field team and technical advisors;
- Narrative Report draft which includes: i) number of beneficiaries (disaggregated by gender and nationality), ii) providing technical guidance for future steps.
