Humedica, founded in 1979 and situated in Kaufbeuren (Bavaria), is an international non-governmental organization funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. In Lebanon, humedica runs one Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) serving approximately 30 informal tented settlements (ITS) in the Bekaa valley, providing free primary health care and medication for Syrian refugees. In addition, humedica is supporting Primary Health Care Centers (PCHs) (under the administration of Ministry of Public Health) for both Lebanese and Syrian patients.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
- Support the referral of patients who require specialized/secondary medical treatment
- Collect pertinent information and provide appropriate actions for patients who are seeking emergency care
- Liaising and networking with partner organizations, public institutions (MoPH, PHCs, hospitals), UN agencies and health partners e.g. for referrals and medical services
- Filing, documentation, management and regular follow up with individual patients in informal tented settlements (ITS)
- Coordinate regularly with MMU field officers and doctors concerning referral cases
- Ensure proper and timely reporting to CC and flow of information (special case meetings, team briefings, diagnosis, lab test results, etc.) between the doctors, the referred patients and the CC
- Support the MMU in the assessment, registration and monitoring of patients
- Assist the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer in assessment and evaluation of current and potential humedica ITS
- Act as field officer to MMU if support is needed
- Act as driver and/or translator for CC if necessary
- Assist in logistics and data filing
Conditions of engagement:
Starting: September 2019
Contract duration: October 2020
Working hours: 8.30 – 5:00, one hour lunch break
Post based in the humedica office in Zahle and Central Bekaa with occasional field visits
Minimum requirements:
Education and Experience
- Experience in working with NGOs
- Medical background is desired (nurse, pharmacist etc.)
- Strong knowledge of the established Lebanese Health System in cooperation with UNHCR and INGOs in Bekaa Valley
Languages
- Fluent Arabic and good English language is mandatory

- Good knowledge of the Lebanese referral system and ability to explain the referral processes in detail to patients if needed
