REGIONAL CONTEXT
The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is affected by some of the protracted and complex humanitarian emergencies in the world, primarily the result of armed conflict and other protracted violence. The long occupation of Palestine and the conflicts in Iraq, Libya, Syria, and Yemen have in recent years led to large-scale humanitarian crises and remain a major determining factor in the ability of communities to take active steps towards strengthening their resilience. Health and Care lead efforts both in emergency and developmental efforts and strategically and operationally Health and Care are seen as indivisible and complementary and form the Health and care Unit structurally.
OBJECTIVE
The volunteer will provide an opportunity for graduate students or after graduated to work with the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement’s humanitarian and health-related work in MENA and Globally focusing upon ‘One WASprimarily but supporting the whole team in MENA and Globally where appropriate under the supervision of the WASH Regional Advisor/Senior Officer and ultimately to Head of Health & Care and Emergency health coordinator.
The volunteer will benefit from access to all Federation tools related to health and care Unit response in humanitarian emergencies as well as WASH and health in development.
MAIN TASKS
- act as the focal person in Health and Care unit in term of the regular reporting task (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually, meeting minutes, etc.. )
- keeping the internal and inter-department communication smooth,
- Establishing and ensuring effective working relationships with other personnel, including all other RC/RC Movement staff as necessary
- Assist in the logistic and technical preparations related to Health and care operations and programs with a focus on Arranging meetings and workshops
- Assist the WASH and Health and Care team in their daily tasks of technical support to National Societies participating in the events organized by the H&C unit.
- Conduct missions if there are any appropriate possibilities (subject to security clearance).
- Perform any other work-related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the line manager
EXPECTED DELIVERABLES
- General admin, logistical and financial management related health and wash department with main focus on health events.
- Maintain key files and data for the health and care department
- Maintain links and assist in coordination related to health and wash department both internal and external.
- Support preparation of key documents, publications, and marketing information.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Undergraduate studies in public health or social sciences field, or administration (Required)
Experience
- Familiar with IFRC system and procedures (Required)
- Experience as a facilitator or trainer. (Preferred)
- Work experience with other international organizations, large NGOs and/or governmental development agency. (Required)
Knowledge and Skills
- Understanding of the humanitarian context. (Required)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, diverse cultural context. (Required)
- Pro-active and highly organized, planning skills, Flexibility, Analytical thinking. (Required)
- Strong report-writing skills. (Required)
Languages
Fluently spoken and written Arabic & English. (Required)
Good command of another IFRC official language (French). (Preferred)
