This current vacancy is based in ARK’s Lebanon office and is part of the Research and Analysis Department, reporting to a Senior Research Consultant.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Review and synthesize scholarly material about social, political, and economic issues, from academic journals, policy institutes, etc.

Assist in preparation of survey questionnaires and focus group and interview scripts.

Assist in sampling for survey research, often with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools.

Review and “clean” or “scrub” large public opinion data sets.

Assist in supervision of data collectors and field researchers.

Tabulate descriptive statistics and prepare charts and tables.

Monitor political developments in Lebanon and the region and prepare thematic and analytical reports, including conflict analyses, to inform project activities.

Requirements

Degree in economics, political science, sociology, computer science, mathematics, social work, anthropology, psychology, or relevant social-science field. Advanced training in statistics, econometrics, or other quantitative methods desirable.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyse, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.

Previous experience with public opinion or survey research desirable.

Professional written English required. Spoken fluency in Arabic.

Intermediate-to-advanced capability with statistics software like SPSS. Experience with modelling desirable but not required. Experience with R desirable but not required.

Experience with GIS software like ArcGIS or QGIS, or willingness to learn.

Commitment to the conduct of ethical research with human subjects, and familiarity with a code of research ethics, for example the Code of Ethics of the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR), or similar code in related field.

Self-motivated, with willingness to explore and discover new tools and methods for the collection and analysis of data.

Should have the right to work in Lebanon.
