CARE International in Lebanon (CiL) is part of a regional response to the Syrian Crisis to meet the immediate and most urgent needs of those who have fled Syria and provide support to local vulnerable host populations. CARE’s programs are also designed to meet longer term needs. Working with partners in WASH, Shelter, Protection, Livelihoods and economic opportunities in the North, South, Beirut, and Mount Lebanon Governorates CARE has a special emphasis on working with women and girls.
CARE is implementing a capacity building and livelihood community-based agriculture project that seeks to address critical capacity gaps along targeted value chains at both the individual, communal and institutional levels This position is responsible for the outreach, implementation, follow up, and quality maintenance for the Agricultural Training activities, GHP/GMP, Food processing trainings, and GMP according to donor’s request with the support of the team.
- Consultant Tasks:
Responsibility #1: Technical Support
- Provide direct technical assistance to value chain actors to assist in upgrading activities and overseeing implementation in appropriate locations based on Small ruminants’ value chain requirements.
- Design, implement, and oversee relevant capacity building to agriculture and agri-food actors (including farmers, producers, and resellers)
- Work closely with the Agricultural Specialist to make sure all partners are implementing the Good Agricultural Practices regarding Small Ruminants Value chain activities.
- Research supply and demand of targeted commodities and promote ways to improve buyer-seller intermediation for all targeted value chains.
- Collaborate with bilateral projects across the region to strengthen higher ends of value chains.
Responsibility #2: Curriculum development
- Provide inputs into the curriculum developed for :
- The improvement of the flock management practices in order to increase the flock productivity and to obtain a more important quantity of safe and quality animal products;
- Breeding management and Synchronization
- Nutrition requirements, Health and Vaccinations
- Production Costing and Financial/ Farm management
- Preparing for High Production Season
- Barn Preparation and Spacing
- Lambing and Early Milk Production
- Lamb/ Kid Rearing Management
- Milk Production
- Fattening Animals Health Evaluation and Supplementation
Responsibility #3: Reporting & Information sharing
- Draft narrative and quantitative reports as per CARE internal requirements and donor requirements.
The consultant will also have to fulfill any other task as requested by her/his supervisor depending on the programmatic priorities in the Field Office.

- Timeframe / Schedule:
The Consultant shall join the project for 3 full months full time, starting the first of March 2020.

The selected consultant(s) will work closely with the WFP-AFDAL programme team specially the Agricultural Specialist; and will be expected to provide regular feedback to the research throughout the research period. The consultant(s) will work very closely CARE Lebanon Socio-Economic Consultants and Coordinators.
- Profile of the Consultant:
- MA/S or equivalent in Agriculture Engineer, agronomy, or another relevant field.
- At least 3 years of experience out of which 3 are as a technical specialist in an international NGO, preferably in Agriculture value chains and specially in Small ruminants.
- Previous experience working with local partners on research in Lebanon
- Previous Experience carrying out Agriculture Value Chain Assessments
- Strong written and oral communication skills in English. Arabic skills an asset.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members.
